Have you been on any longer holidays? 12 days in a posh hotel is far too little time to really understand if you'd be happy living in the country - maybe try to get a month off and go live there, possibly off-season, not in a swanky hotel but maybe a flat/house rent, and see if you like it as much?

Not trying to put you off - I know loads of people who've moved abroad and loved it, but a few who ended up really miserable. Do your research into the job market etc, learn the language, visit frequently for as long as possible, try to get into the local culture, make friends out there. Don't just be seduced by the better weather!
  • We rented an apartment in Fuerteventura for 3 weeks and cooked ect ourselves and loved it.

This was about 5 years ago.

Yea I know someone who rented a bar in Bulgaria and was home within a season very skint with nothing left its always a fear but if we never try it will always be their if you know what i mean.

We would rent out house out to cover the mortgage.

But need to get stuck in with my research.

You are both young enough, without the ties of kids, to give it a go, and see if you like it. You could rent your house out for a 6 month contract, and give yourself that time as a trial period, if you really don't like it, what the hell, it will be a good story to tell the grand kids in years to come.

I really wouldn't know where to suggest though. I travelled to Australia for 6 months after I left uni. No the backpacker experience, but stayed with family as their au pair to earn my keep. Sydney is my favourite place, but it does feel so far from home. Maybe somewhere not too many time zones away to start? Or would you be able to save enough to try travelling to a few places for a while? Work in bars when you need money.

Life is short, so don't regret not trying it. We are too tied these days, but in years to come can imagine my older years somewhere warm!
  • Its a quite natural thing to happen when we visit a place and if its nice we always plan to change there but its not a write thing to do. We don't know exactly whats the situations there, After going there we come to know all the things and then we regrate our self. The comfort and happiness of the home town cannot be gained any where. If you love the place so much just plain the trip once again and enjoy as much you can.

Under Communism we were poor and oppressed, but yhere was always enough food on the table.
Now the MAF1A run everything, we are still poor and oppressed but there is no food on the table

Why do you think they are all flooding into UK?

We're going to buy a place in Tenerife but we'll only spend Winters there.

England is just too beautiful to abandon completely.
This morning I've been for an early bike ride, silent but for the dawn chorus, the smell of wild garlic, stunning.
I'd miss proper beer, village cricket. The rain can be annoying at times but Summer rain is usually warm and I'm quite waterproof.
So yes, I will live further South for part of the year but not all of it.

You only need to have a look round the expat enclaves in parts of Spain and Cyprus, and see all the 'For Sale' signs!

And the source for this wild claim? - they don't generally have the right to work here yet so I'd be interested to see some numbers on this 'flood' that's happening.

PS - The Daily Mail doesn't count as a reliable source

Wherever you go be sure to see the place in all seasons (if applicable).

    Very good advice. :T

Living and working in a place isn't the same as holidaying there for a couple of weeks so do your research carefully and in-depth.

I think maybe an ex-pat website would give you more information than a holiday board on a money-saving website.

    I Googled and found this:
