Mentioning children at interview
Comments
-
As an employer I would ask in a general preamble about their personal life, are they married / in a relationship, do they have children etc. Its about profiling for the available position. If you have a job that requires unsociable hours or working away etc it may best suit a single person, whereas on the other hand a person married with children offers more of a chance of stability as they have commitments to meet and may be less likely to take a hangover sickie on a Monday and or flit from job to job.
Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but for me its all part of the process and whilst not foolproof it buys you an advantage.
You do know that you can't ask those questions don't you? Or do you think you're above the law?0 -
What would you rely on if you were interviewing then. ps we're all stereotyped and profiled every day throughout our lives. Hope this realisation doesnt ruin your day.
I match the competencies demonstrated by the candidate with the job spec of the role I am interviewing for. I'm looking for someone to do a job, that doesn't mean they have to conform to my narrow minded view of what an ideal employee looks like.0 -
Why should it get your back up? Are you suggesting that your organisation needs lots of unplanned overtime? Surely any competent boss would agree, and perhaps even outline when it might arise? But most overtime I've ever done in an IT context was planned.
I'd go home willingly. I don't actually need to work for an organisation like yours. I appreciate you like your employees to be submissive and no doubt you just love the present recession and the ability to screw your workers, but if you want a degree of initiative and intelligence in them you're on a loser.
I'm a really enthusiastic and willing person but I don't suffer fools lightly.0 -

I am perfectly within my rights to ask those questions. I may not be allowed to make a judgement based on them which is a different matter. However You would never know.0 -

Are you the monkey or the organ grinder? Are you really in charge? Because it seems like you really don't have a clue both legally and morally! :rotfl:0 -

Absolute nonsense. Ive employed hundreds of people since 1984 and have always asked these questions. Ive never had my collar felt yet so Im willing to take the risk.
Anyway, I dont employ liberals either so my interviewing techniques wouldn't really impact you people anyway as Id see the cut of your gib a mile away.0 -

What the ones they lie to you about on their CV. Youve obviously been on a course !! In the real world its about understanding people.0 -

I don't think you'd get very far with that argument. After all why ask the question if it's not relevant to the interview.
I'm really keen to know if you do actually do any hiring or if you're just some bored schoolkid trolling on here now the exams are over.0 -
