I am appalled by what some of you are going through - people inviting their own guests.... unsupportive comments.....
So a big hug to all you frazzled wedding planners x

You won't like me....... we are keeping ours a secret !
    - even our kids (8&9) won't be told until the night before.
Late afternoon wedding with just 12 of us.....
It's near my other halves birthday, so we are having a big party with a big cake that evening - I have 1 friend in on it - who is in charge of wedding decorations instead of birthday decorations, and looking after my cake.
I can't wait to see their faces :rotfl:

Oh gosh I really feel your pain.

All this has really made me realise how selfish some of the female members of my family are, and to be honest I am highly likely to distance myself from them when the wedding is finished, as they are tarnishing things for me. I have negative remarks about everything, from the dress I chose, to the shoes I have chosen and like you are saying, it does make you doubt yourself... Really quite personal remarks as well about my weight, im not that huge im a size 14 but got told i needed to go on slim fast..:( Im really quite heartbroken and tearful to be honest.Such a shame as this time should be a time of gleeful anticipation..

I stopped smoking just over a year ago, and I must admit I have felt like buying cigarettes again. If this is 'family' support then we dont need it, to be honest, ive got much more supportive mates, who see me for who I am, and not what mould they would like to cram me into

The person who said about going on slim fast was so insensitive, that's awful :( Maybe easier said than done, but just try your best to ignore them, as that is not on, and your right, size 14 is not big at all. I'm a size 12, so according to your friend/family member, I'm one step away from slim fast! :rotfl: You know yourself if you feel good and look good in your dress, and at the end of the day that's what counts. I'm not sure what people will make of my dress, it's not the usual long dress, it's about knee length, a 50's swing dress, and I'm wearing it with Converse, I'm sure that'll raise a few eyebrows! My Mam and Dad love the dress, my Dad said its one of the nicest he's seen, and I feel comfortable in it, so sod everyone else!

Glad I'm not the only one who's feeling like this (not glad that you are of course, but ykwim!), this thread has really helped to get all my vents out! :rotfl:

It's terrible we're nearly being turned back to smoking isn't it?! :rotfl:

Sounds like everyone's in the same boat. My family haven't been "too" bad, just my mum & OHs mum wanting to invite multiple friends. Put the foot down and said they could invite 1 friend each, only to hear the moans of "but I was invited to their daughter's/son's wedding ... it's the done thing to invite them back." My mum agreed for a full week with me about it, but she finally backed down. Though at least she had asked if she could invite friends. OHs mum was just inviting 3/4 friends & all their partners without even asking - OH only knew 1 or 2 of them!!!OH told her she could invite 1 friend & partner, & told her to choose which 1 - she's still trying to decide ;)

The one thing that really bugged me was my aunt. While chatting to my mum, she kept dropping in how she thought people should get married a few years into their relationship, otherwise it there's a problem with the r/ship (OH & I have been together over 10 years); you should get married in your 20s (we are in our early 30s): & how it was disgraceful to not get married in a church/faith you have been brought up in (we're having a civil ceremony)!!!!! Now I'm not naive, I know this rant was probably due to some kinda jealousy or something, but seriously, who made her judge & jury???? I felt sorry for my mum sitting listening to all that, I felt more annoyed for her than I did me

It's already nearly turned me back to smoking today, I'm not joking either, 3 years and a 100 and something days since i quit, and I nearly bought a packet of fags today!

Btw, Georgiegirl, stay strong, don't let them undo all the hard work you've put in giving up!!!!

I am also beginning to wish we had run away to Gretna! Myself and OH have separated parents so its quite complicated, but my dad has been my main problem. Absent for the majority of my life, but expecting to play the traditional "father of the bride" role. Me and OH are paying for the entire wedding, and my dad decided to invite 8 of his friends and threw a hissy fit when I said no.

I'm having such a bridezilla day today
