surely you (the OP) know your woman and know whether she is the type to want the most expensive one you can afford to impress her and your mates, or if she is a moneysaving type and is happy with picking something a bit different which costs a ton less than a typical diamond.

She may even want to pick herself?

Mine is a €30 one we got at disneyland paris before getting engaged at the top of the disneyland castle. Its cubic zerconia and makes me laugh when people say "massive rock, that must have cost a bomb".

The price of the ring should be irrelevant. And if your girl is more into the price tag than having a ring full stop then she's a douchebag.

There is no "rule" and you should spend what you can afford.

    This.

All this "You should spend two/three month's wages" is utter bullsh!t propagated by the diamond companies and high street jewellers.

Mine was £159. But I got to choose which one and didn't want a "standard" engagement ring. He was happy it wasn't expensive and I was happy it was the one I wanted. :) the price doesn't matter tbh. Just think of it in the way you can put what you don't spend on the ring, towards the wedding :)
What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..

An engagement ring should grab your heart not your wallet!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I think these comments are bit unfair on the OP's intended.

Mine was £52 and I loved it......I would feel awful if someone spent more than say £100 on a ring for me (deja vue here, discussed this on another thread!)

Mind you, I am one of those non girly types with the added complication of hating money being spent on non essentials, used to drive my now ex husband barmy when he wanted the latest games system or the ultra expensive branded food item :rotfl:He loved it for the wedding though, less for us to pay!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I didn't have a ring - didn't see the need for one.

Why would anyone but you even know what it cost?

I found out several months later quite by chance, due to an insurance type question, but never gave me it saying 'by the way that cost xyz'.

My OH spending 3 x his monthly income would mean I had a rock worth over 10k on my finger - to me that's bonkers.

Find a ring you like, then find the style at a cost you find good value for money.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • mine was only £100, we were pretty poor back then, 13 years later I still love it.

Love is more important than money x
