MSE News: Sky offers free broadband for sports subscribers

I'm a Sky user of 8 years standing. In May, I got an offer addressed personally to me, offering Firbre half price for 6 months if I upgraded from my Sky Broadband. When I rang to take up the offer, they told me the offer wasn't available (it states in the letter "ring this number before 31st July"). Instead, I ended up accepting a 3 month deal at half price. It's due to be installed this coming monday. Today (Friday) I go TWO letters from Sky - one setting out my order, and the 2nd, offering me HALF PRICE FOR 12 MONTHS IF I TRANSFER MY BROADBAND TO FIBRE BEFORE AUGUST 8TH.

I again rang Sky and asked them what was going on. I was told they couldn't change the offer because of the close Activation date, and to ring them once it's all up and running.

Not very good PR really - we'll see what happens.

Firstly, i don't have sports as i cancelled it last night as my half price of £10.50 per month was up end of July.

Went on phone today to try and haggle cost of b/band and phone down and came away with-

unlimited fibre broadband
line rental
standard sky talk package (free ater 7 and weenkend)

Above is costing me £20 a month for a year. I have had issues in the past 18 months with them on their standard broadband and they have a record of this on my account. I believe this was because of an incorrect installation when TV engineer originally installed kit but that's another story!

Think this is a reasonable deal as my speeds were 2/2.5 on a line with max of 4. Hope i notice a difference on fibre.

Had Sky for 5 Years, Sky Talk & BB for 10 Months.

Rang Up to Cancel the other day got a cracking deal.

Was gonna go to TalkTalk as they have fibre, Sky Sports News.

So great deal for me at the moment.

My parents phoned to get this free broadband and were charged despite having the top tv package including sports. Sky said they knew nothing about it, so they immediately cancelled all their services and got a far better deal from virgin.:j
