I have used danske in Lurgan and Lisburn Road and found then to be slow and still living in the 19th century

Try Ecobank: head office is in Togo, and they have branches all over Francophone West Africa. A routine visit to withdraw cash is likely to take at least an hour. Anything more complicated will take all morning.

They have a minimum balance requirement on all accounts (reasonable) but when you close your account the bank keeps the minimum balance. On top of that, there is a fee for closing your account, and in order to get permission to close your account you need to write a letter grovelling to the manager to request permission to close it.

For some transactions, on-line banking or using a cash machine is faster than going in to the bank, but you have to pay some stiff fees if you want to use these modern conveniences!

I understand that banks in France are just as bad: the frustrating things about Ecobank are not because they are African but because of their French heritage.

So you recommend that posters here move all their hard earned cash to a bank based in Toga so that they possibly can save two and a half days interest per cheque transaction which probably amounts to about 1.5p for each £100 moved from one account to another. Interesting advice!

Whatever Danske Bank are doing it's working for them, if not their customers. They're reporting profit in Norn Irn again. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/news/danske-bank-back-in-profit-as-it-looks-to-grow-in-uk-29717434.html

Danske claim to have approx 20% of the personal banking market share in NI. I don't believe that number has changed much recently.

The customers 'leaving in droves' comment above may refer to the parent company and it links to a Danish website. Although making a profit, Danske is not doing as well in Scandinavia as it would like to, and has recently replaced its CEO. And its general belt-tightening is resulting in it closing down a majority of its operation in RoI next year.

I hate Danske. Was with them for years putting up with their rubbish ways then switched to First Direct earlier this year. Can't fault them at all.
  • Maybe I've been lucky in Danske Lurgan, but Armagh can be a really bad one. Went in to lodge cheques recently, I could have used the envelopes - had there been any around. The counter was deserted - and remained like that for upwards of 5 minutes (yes, I started timing it!) so I couldn't lodge the cheques the old-fashioned way either!

Could be worse, you could be with the ridiculously silly Ulster Bank.

Bank staff have different roles...not all of them are cashiers.
true but all bank staff working in local branches should be trained to do cashier service so when needed they can help out............
