as the title suggests !!!!!! has happened to Danske Bank. i regularly go to lisburn, lurgan and lisburn road and they have got to be the only bank that only ever has 2 staff on the front. Wild slow and could do with a drop of something in their tea to get them shifting. Anyway......
rant number 2 . today i had to lodge a cheque into my lisburn Danske Bank account from a client who also had the exact same branch. Why am i told it take 3 business days to clear for the 2 customers having the same branch???? anybody any idea as the woman could only tell me that was the process. i queried exactly what the process was that would take 3 days but she couldnt answer me other than repeating that is the process.
anybody working in a bank explain why they:mad: still live in the dark ages?

Bank of Ireland in Lurgan are a barrel full of laughs.
No more than two counter staff EVER and down to one over lunchtime - when they probably get their most customers.
Went in one morning at half ten to withdraw cash from my business account - 'sorry you'll have to wait as the manager who has the safe keys is on his break', so i had to wait 15 mins - thinking he'd nipped out - turns out he was sitting in the staff room, but of course everyone had to wait for cash until he'd finished his morning coffee.0 -

They take it out of your account instantly, it sits in theirs three days accruing interest, then they drop it into the other account.0 -
Halifax Portadown - "i'd like to lodge this cash please into this account", "can we see some ID please and can you answer the following security questions"
WHY??? If someone wants to lodge money into my account PLEASE let them.0 -
For real? They are allowed to take the money and have it sitting in their bank gaining interest when it should be in mine getting interest. Is this bloody legal! Any wonder the woman could not explain the process. If she had said "but we like to get a few days interest before handing it over to you" then I would have fell off my bloody seat!0

Antrim Danske can be like that too.
One day last week I was in at lunchtime and there were about 10 ppl in the queue with only 2 cashiers, plenty of other staff just milling about seemingly doing nothing:eek:
Regarding cheques,Ulster Bank to Ulster Bank clear instantly, even if the account the money is coming from has insufficient funds!!!
Was recently told by BOI that it takes there cheques 3 days to clear and 5-7 days for other banks cheques:eek:
I have questioned this many times before and nobody was able to explain it0 -

You claim THEY live in the dark ages, yet you and your client chose to use bits of paper to transfer money instead of electronically. Or even by cash. It's the whingers who refused to accept alternative forms of payment that have caused the continuing use of cheques. They cost the bank money to process, and they are one of the highest causes of fraud. Cheques will die out. Younger generations will not use them. Therefore banks are not going to invest time and money into improving the process for them just to please a few dinosaurs now.
Also, do you think that the counter staff have control over how many staff there are on at any one time? The banks have been cutting staff left right & centre over the last couple of years. They now work on the bare minimum, and its down to poor management if there aren't enough people to cover particular times. However, sometimes customers are to blame just as much for queues. The amount of people that use branches for the most simple transactions that would seconds online or over the phone is unreal. While people continue to be stubborn, there will continue to be queues.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -

For your information the client was an elderly gent that i know and I find that mostly that's the only way they seem to know how to do business.
Why does ulster bank cheques clear on same day. I phoned ulsterbank and they said that they would be cleared pretty much instant. Phoned danske bank to explain ulsterbank can do it so why can't they. Danske bank stated that it was a legal requirement for all banks to hold cheques for three days and what ulster bank was doing was illegal under E.U law.
Does that sound like a load of crap to anyone else??0 -
Try Ecobank: head office is in Togo, and they have branches all over Francophone West Africa. A routine visit to withdraw cash is likely to take at least an hour. Anything more complicated will take all morning.
They have a minimum balance requirement on all accounts (reasonable) but when you close your account the bank keeps the minimum balance. On top of that, there is a fee for closing your account, and in order to get permission to close your account you need to write a letter grovelling to the manager to request permission to close it.
For some transactions, on-line banking or using a cash machine is faster than going in to the bank, but you have to pay some stiff fees if you want to use these modern conveniences!
I understand that banks in France are just as bad: the frustrating things about Ecobank are not because they are African but because of their French heritage.0 -
Surely if this was the case regarding EU law, then somebody would have put a stop to it?
I personally believe the money just sits in an account somewhere earning money for the respective bank,no matter what anyone says.
I lodged a Northern bank cheque into an Ulster bank account one time and was advised that it would take 3-5 days as usual, however 2 days later I went to the branch and asked the cashier would it be possible to withdraw some money even though the cheque hadn't cleared and she said as long as I knew who the cheque was from she would give me some cash:eek:Go figure:)0
