Hi peeps,
I've just been onto VM to get the cost of my home phone and broadband down and I'm just wondering if the deal they've offered is any good and if not what I can do to better it.
At the mo I'm on a bundle - 20mg broadband L, talk unlimited, talk o8 2, for £26.15 and Phone line rental £14.99 (this months bill was £41.14
They've offered - 30mg broadband XL, 153 free min's, free calls to 0845 & 0870 no's, new hub, £4 discount - £29.20
Any thoughts?!
Linda

so you have to pay the Phone line rental £14.99 on top ? = £44
is it that price for the whole contract?
Just remember your trying to get the price down, not a good deal on stuff you don't need!0 -
Nope,
Just got off phone again, they can't give a breakdown until it goes active but total price to pay per month will be £29.20 - includes
line rental, talk unlimited, 30mg bb etc. etc.
The fella was a bit flummoxed as to how someone could give me "such a good deal" but he's probably reading the script! Has also agreed that I could pay £120 line rental up-front.0 -
something to be aware of is VM 'cutting' upload speeds
I recently 'upgraded' from 50 to 60 meg as part of a package change.
however this dropped my upload speeds and left me exempt from the forthcoming 100meg free upgrade on the 50 meg.
eventually haggled an upgrade to 100 meg with the 120 upgrade due soon as i need the upload bandwidth more than the download increase0 -

Yes but not as it was 'sold' to me
it was a package change (TV/phone)that included my broadband speed increasing
Had they said they were changing my broadband package then i would have questioned it
VM are changing the ratio for DL/UL on these new packages, they have dropped the 10-1 ratio and are now on a 20-1 ratio for DL-UL speeds0 -
That's a common ploy that has been used by VM CS to fool people into thinking they are getting a BB upgrade when in fact they get an early speed doubling on a lower product. I've seen countless posts from people wondering when they will be getting their free doubling when in fact they already had it and were conned into thinking the downgrade was a price reduction + speed increase.
I think the only 10:1 is likely to be 120/12 although there has been talk of 10:1 actross the board I've seen no evidence it's coming anytime soon - look at the traffic management tables - no mention there of any 10:1 other than the 120/12. If you want high upstream go to FTTC if you can.0 -

yup. luckily I noticed the UL drop and called up within my cancellation period
in the end I got 100meg for a few quid more0 -

Did a speed test yesterday, is this up-load speed the norm? It's always been at this level, seems awfully slow to me given the download speed!
Anyone else got the same?0 -
Most of tiers have upload at 5% of download.
30Mbps does a little better with 2Mbps up
60Mbps is at 3Mbps
100Mbps is 5Mbps for the doubled 50 or 10Mbps if it's the old 100 tier.
Once upgraded 100 will become 120/12
Yours looks like a doubled 10 which needs a Superhub to become 30/2 but getting one by calling in will result in a new minimum contract term.0 -

VM have offered me 30mgs (from 20) with the installation of a new super hub. New 12 mth. contract. :undecided Still not sure if I've haggled enough of a good deal or whether I should try squeezing a bit more out of them! (free for ?months for eg.)0
