I believe it used to be commonplace but not anymore.
On the mainland there are "woman only" carriages on trains (there are no trains here in Okinawa) however my Japanese female friends and I never bothered used them and never encountered any problems in the 5 years I was there."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" Loving this thread! I wonder what fellow passengers would have thought when my Mum (aged 79) told me that she 'has got a pigeon coming into her private part'. She was talking about her garden!0

When I am out sailing we sometimes listen to the Coast Guard radio. What is really annoying is to only pick up half of the transmission. Usually just the Coast Guard side of things. Very frustrating if you are nosy, like me.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

I can imagine...
"He did what!?"
...
"And it's how big!?"
...
"And he put it where!?"
...
"How many of you were there!?"
...
"Was anyone hurt?"
...
"OK, we'll send a boat out"
....you'd never know.0
