Dry and reasonably bright today

I have asked OH if we can drop by my favourite local garden today so that I can have a short walk somewhere I love. It is tough finding time to fit things in but I always leave this garden feeling calm and relaxed so I think the effort will be worth it.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Well, I should be sorting out pet insurance today for my daft as a brush lurcher. But have been distracted by the 'decision' on stoves.
As you may recall we are not planning to stay here longterm so Mr BD wants to go 'cheap and cheerful' with a Firefox 5 for £359 (and the installer said was best VFM at this price point)
But having read the reviews on whatstove I am more tempted to go for the installers recommendation the Dunsley Highlander (£627)
Or the Morso Squirrel (£685)
Of course the latter two are more expensive. Installation including a 10 year liner will be about £1,200 plus the cost of the stove.
Mr BD also wants to spend an extra £120 and have the flue from the back instead of the top. I'd rather spend that money (and a little more) on a better quality stove, that hopefully won't give us any trouble while we are here.
So there may not be harmony in the BD household this afternoon when Mr BD gets home from work :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hope you enjoy your gardens trip Rummer - a little 'calm and relaxed' can go a long way

BD.. would it be wise to go for the higher end fire.. as this is going to be a feature in the living room, it could be a good selling point when the time comes to sell, same as they say to put a good kitchen in, as again they are good selling points for a property..

Gardens are super -relaxing when they are not your own and you don't notice 'jobs to do!'
Better Days, I agree with you. Fires that are long tried & tested from UK or European manufacturers will probably have better controls than something made in China. I don't know if that's where the Firefox originates, but it's likely, if it's the budget option.
Of course, when selling, there's no guarantee your prospective purchasers will know their Morso from their Less-so, but
for me, a Squirrel would be a welcome thing to see. Not a deal -breaker either way of course.
Out the back or the top? Not sure, but a flue at the back must take up more room, surely? How many kettles do you want to boil on it? There's still room on my top for cooking, despite the chimney. :cool:0 -
How deep is the fireplace? I wouldn't want a wb to protrude too much.
The stove we want is almost half the price on line than from our local retailer. Ok, so there is in stallion too....but so would there be with local retailer. I'll use another local retailer who are less rip off - y for In stalling:).
Also, although I really want it in enamelled cream ( or biscuit as they call it....perhaps they are day dreamers? ) its not worth the extra wedge as it might make it easier to clean and a bit prettier, but it won't make it warmer. So flat black cast it is.

Yes, Dave I do think painting Formica is a bit Blue Peter & spraying would be better. I am thinking new doors, but not oak to paint, just cheap to paint over & chrome, or brushed steel drawer pulls or porcelain knobs.
Poured down again again again.
Just treading water - literally.
OH just priced some new type on under floor heating stuff - it's ridiculously expensive. He could recommend it to clients.......if they dropped the price.............I'm shouting/hinting in the background as he's on the phone.
What have we spent to date? .....I daren't add it up, what with new road in, bringing in electric supply & fencing the croft & hill..........JeeeeeeeeeWizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, Crazy money.
Have a nice walk round the garden Rummer. Rumlet has to catch the gardening bug early.0 -
Thanks CTC, LIR and Davesnave for your 'stoves wisdom'. :A Confirmed my thoughts.

When Mr BD got home I invited him to read the reviews for the 3 choices on whatstove to help us decide. He soon got fed up with that - his only conclusion was that the stoves looked pretty much the same and not all the reviews were positive for any of the stoves.:D
After a short discussion he decided that the easiest thing would be for me to choose - and even said that if I liked the design of the Morso then to go for it as it 'was only an extra £60' (His Yorkshire genes must have been spinning in their graves). And we are going for a top flue.
Did a google search for cream stoves LIR - they are very smart, but I seem to recall reading on one of the forums - possibly the Greenliving one that they do discolour quite badly, so you will be probably be better off with a black one anyway. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Why did I have to be nosey and look on Right move to see what the W word was? It never ends well, I always end up looking at what's available in our area that I can't afford
This comes with 1.7 acres but is a 'tad' expensive.

BTW, I owned a terraced house for 17 years that had poured concrete walls that had been erected just after the war. I never had a problem with cracks or concrete cancer, but I'm glad I got rid before that happened. It was a repossession that I bought from the Halifax, and put the mortgage through them, so no problem with getting a mortgage on it. It wasn't particularly cold, but in order to put any insulation on it, the walls would have had to be cladded externally. The council have just started doing this to their properties and very smart the houses look too. Mind you, you now know which houses are owned and which are rented
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Och well....for those that are still wondering ...the "W word" is Woolaway. Ach.....single-skinned/cold/etc/etc....
Hard to heat is a 4 letter word in this day and age....
Shame...as the one I viewed had a view to absolutely die for and looked pretty good of itself...but.....oh well......<SIGHS>0 -
Charlie our daft but sweet lurcher went to vets this evening as had bit of build up of tartar on his back teeth. Booked in for a dental next week and possibly an extraction, vet thinks he may have cracked one of his back teeth. He is now exhausted
