It's hot here today.. DH and I just been in the lagoon. We didn't take towels down, just pulled on our clothes straight from the water. By the time we were the short walk back we were bone dry, and getting damp from sweat again.0

Well, the hay's cut.
Pete is very pleased with the top field, which seems to be really good quality. The lower field had sheep on it late, so we weren't expecting much there.
Some of the sweet peppers are bulking up now. What a difference a few days of real warmth make!0 -
Thanks all,
have had a lot of pressure with one thing and another, and I am normally the type of person who thrives on pressure etc, BUT everything feels as though its been crumbling around me, and a lot of it I have/had no control over...
Last night up the ranch I really did do a lot of deep thinking, and all I can come up with, even though things were going wrong the week after we bought the ranch, I could stll manage things.. THEN there was the crash/accident in August, I wasn't Driving.. and I feel as though I have slowly gone to pieces after that. totally not n control of things.:o I might be totally wrong, and just trying to blame how I am feeling on 'something'.
Rozee I used to read loads... and funny enough on Thursday we had 3 50 shades of grey in work:rotfl: I have heard loads of say its quite a 'sexy' book, so maybe I should read that:cool::D
We went to the pig aucton on Friday to have 'a look'ended up buying a young boar.... FK was there, had a good chat, and she bought some stunning G. old spots.... from a great breeder..
Fk I will text you later, to see if you fancy coming over later...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh, meant to add, noticed when down at lake cake today one of the willows growing in it has fallen quite badly towards the middle. It was one we were going to keep, but now it will have to go, it looks odd. So, that's another for the 'to fell' list. There are another two to go from near that one, but now its tipped not sure how we'll get too it, or how much water we will need to get out of the lagoon first.
It might be a next year job, as its too dry (and nesting) to risk slash and burn this time of year and we did none before bird time because of weather and misery
Even though I find it too hot i am amazed this year how notably the sun is lifting my mood, I have never noticed this before.0 -
Hi everyone , back from our hols in Sussex. Viewed a chalet bungalow this afternoon, but sooo disappointing and well overpriced. Have definitely decided not to go ahead with the lovely garden with tatty bungalow attached as it is non standard construction and is just not worth doing the upgrading work it needs. Trying not to lose the faith that we will find what we want
Kitties are happy to be back from kitty hotel (which appeared to be rather cleaner than the self catering place we were in last week, had to clean when we arrived and the bedding smelt of urine:eek:.) Kitty hotel was great, owner has about 7 acres with pigs and goats and she sent us texts during the week to let us know how Barley and Nelson were settling in.
Weather is glorious and plants have survived without watering.
CTC sorry to hear you are struggling. Do consider getting help, doesn't have to be meds. Choosing help and the type of help is something you can control, and if the first thing doesn't work, then you can try something else. Everyone has their limit of what they can cope with and that can vary with individual circumstances. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Wise words, you guys. We are doing what we are doing because we have potentially thirty productive-ish years ahead of us. Financially, we should be able to recover quite quickly (although we will never again experience the sort of savings cushion that we had pre-build and have had since we both "retired" from professional life). The good thing about the rental business if that once a tenant is signed up for a year, that gives a lot of security from a cash flow point of view.
The children growing up in this environment is so far removed from the childhood I had in Moss Side and the scuzzy North West of England, it moves me to tears just thinking about it..... On a day like this, it's not far from idyllic.
The chickens are such a pleasure. The children are becoming more and more gentle with them. It's such a great education. From a mental health/well being perspective, they make me live in the present as I sit and watch them enjoy a dust bath. I very rarely give myself the opportunity to just sit and be. I'm generally planning the next productive activity. Speaking of which we now have a very swanky newly painted chicken coop. Colour scheme is blue-grey, dark grey and cranberry red roofs with a yellow highlightYou have to see it to love it! It's great to do something really practical like paint. I've always worked "in my head" before now.
Vegetable growing is a bit hit and miss. There's just not the facilities at the moment. The tomatoes were potted up and then never watered. It's too much like hard work getting the water from the building site to the veggies....
Just trying to explain to my three year old that eating a juicy apple after handling the chickens doesn't count as washing your hands.... Think I'd better go....0 -
BD, SC accommodation smelling of wee  Yeucchh!
Rozee, having moved from the home counties to a deprived part of M/C at the tender age of 9, I agree with your sentiments!
Well, back's playing up again and theres a load of wood to be stacked. Good stuff but not seasoned. Too painful atm to stack so just agreed online for wood to be stacked in exchange for some of our soft fruitI'd better stop grazing on it

Why did I leave the woodshed roof till today?:( It's horribly hot up there and I'm cursing the persons who covered it with polytunnel plastic a few years ago.....:o.....but it's done remarkably well, considering.
Our main objective is just to get all the poly off and most of the roof structure down today. Then we can see how to re-do it a bit stronger, and maybe even squarer too, though as the building is bent I think that may be asking too much! :rotfl:
Maybe the original builders were inspired by visiting the Royal Crescent?
Better Days, I think you're wise not throwing good money after bad. Take your time on finding the new place; the right thing will be out there somewhere.
CTC, I would bet most of us have been there. I was teetering on the brink in 1989 and received much 'helpful' advice, like: "Pull yourself together Mr Snave!"
Luckily, I continued to make a nuisance of myself and a lady doctor came to the rescue. Happily, there are more like her about nowadays.0 -
I think I've cooked the back of my neck  Most of the way through building a new chicken coop. It's taken both of us two days to do and it's still to be painted but I'm extremely pleased with it so far :j
Pics to follow when it's done - it's from my own design based on ones I've seen on the net (with a fair amount of input from DH). Great way to spend a hot sunny weekend!
Hope everyone's enjoying the spell of summertime "...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0
