Oh Choille, I'm so sorry *hugs* it's always hard when they go isn't it. But you've done the right thing by him and you had many happy years together.
On a slightly similar note, I dreamed about our first Persian this week, who died in 2007. It was exceptionally vivid, and it's the first time I've done more than just glimpse him in a dream so it made me smile (and still does). So I can count that as a wound finally healed.
My weather station parts came this week, and I installed them on Wednesday. I've been waiting for it to rain to see if the gauge works - I already knew the anemometer did - and finally this morning... yes it does. It's rare for me to be excited about rain, but there we go.
And I have been gifted some sweetcorn plants by my mum, how close do I plant them? I know it should be in a block for pollination purposes.

Good you've found our new place, choille, and that you are having some work coming in. Hurrah for the roof too! :j
Being skint is no fun. I'm waiting for the big pay out early next year. No, not the lottery, the OAP! :rotfl:
Received our "very dark brown" Maran eggs this morning, securely packed but not as pictured on the Bay.We have Welsummer eggs that are darker than 2/3 of them. As it's a reasonably large breeder, we shall contact him first before leaving negative feedback. However, I think the picture is part of the description and if they are not as described....

I'm very sorry to hear about Weemon, choille.
Hope you get the roof finished smoothly.
The mist & fog of the last couple of days is getting blown away now. The sun keeps trying to come out but is getting chased away by clouds.
Congrats on the working weather station but ........ you actually wanted rain to test it, Alex? :rotfl:
Forgive me asking, Dave, but why do you particularly want the darker shells?
I know people often charge more for brown than white but that's a bit naughty as there's no actual reason behind it.
The shell colour is mainly down to breed & has no bearing on the egg itself.0 -
Poor weemon. My friend lost a cat in just the same way a few weeks ago.
Another week another lawnmower woe. This time its a tyre issues, dh is trying to get the wheel off now. Handy really, I have been needing to take the car in for two new tyres, was hoping to stretch it to next month but..no point making two trips, and probably just as well not to push them any further. I might push the boat at and put it through a cheap car wash too.0 -

All understood, and I'm sure a good % of those buying the eggs probably know it, but people are irrational and like differently coloured eggs. Hence we want to introduce some blues or greens as well.
Basically it's about not having eggs left over, or left too long before we sell them, which is a positive thing. There's nothing 'naughty' about it, especially as we're not charging extra like the big producers do. Our eggs are £2 a dozen, regardless of type, though we try to get the weights similar.0 -

I forgot to say sorry about Weemon.:o He was a part of your lives for a long time.
I'm worried about our 17 year old Daisy too. She was very quiet and withdrawn earlier in the week, and although she's perked-up, she keeps falling off her perch on the sofa. It was funny the first time.....:(0 -

I wasn't suggesting you were being naughty, Dave. Just that some people are.
I understand your idea of mixed colours to help overall turnover..... which makes complete sense.0 -
Choille, so sorry about Weemon, he had a bloody good innings though eh? My longest (and best) relationships are with pets! My mum lost her cat recently, she was 16, kidneys and liver problems.
CTC - I'm buying a grain based feed for piggies, it comes in 600kg bags, Hafodneddyn Feeds in Broad Oak - little bit further for you but worth it if you can store it and you'll use it, I have to decant into barrels and bins. Did I mention that it's about £5.50 for 20kg bought in bulk but they sell it bagged for £6.45 so still far cheaper than pig nuts.
Wish this weather would make it's mind up, one minute ok next minute pouring down and dogs are queuing by the back door to get in!
Right, bit of lunch then back out to make room for yet more piggies arriving next week!0 -
Many thanks to you all for sharing your thoughts on woodburners and seasoning logs. Got lots to think about now
Congrats to Davesnave DD and her degree
choille, very sorry to hear about Weemonsounds like he was a very special kitty.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Ohh meant to add, I think we have bees in the loft.
DH under instruction to go up and have a look (but reluctant) and take some photos of the nest if possible. Think they are probably bumblebees - so from my reading online they will only be with us for a few months and are best left alone. Given the tough time bees are having atm I don't want to disturb them.
