Dry clean only?

Hi,
My husbands a dry cleaner (for the last 30+ years), anything with wool in will shrink if you wash it. Higher the content greater the risk.
To freshen up,give a light mist of Fabreeze, it depends on the price you paid for the trousers and how long you want them to last, if expensive and you like them and want them to last, have dry cleaned when necessary (when just a freshen wont do any longer), this will give your trousers a new look, preserve them and get a professional pressed finish.
I agree though, dry cleaning is expensive - luckily I dont have to pay - but as I said if its a good item, it pays to look after it.
One more tip, always look at the cleaning label when buying something, you would be surprised at how many garments cant be washed or dry cleaned ?:j :j :j :T :T0 -
I,d just wash them by hand in a very mild detergent and dry them flat over the bath, I,m going to try this with two cashmere sweaters. They are not particular favs of mines and are pretty roomy, wish me luck.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
Well except mastered my mortgage 5 yrs early :T:j

Hey,
I was looking for some advice on how to wash the beautiful silk dressing gown my darling OH brough me from his works trip to China (awwww, what a sweetie) when I found this older thread... *bump*!!!!
I took it on holiday, and it got a few smudges of aftersun on it
Its dryclean only, but I'm considering putting in the washing machine on a delicates cycle. What does everyone think? And if so, can I use normal detergent tabs?
Many thanks!!

I would handwash it using something like Woolite or soap flakes - I think normal detergent would be too harsh0

I was thinking of putting the covers to my suite in the washing machine as they are removable would this be advisable if so would a delicate cycle be ok?0
-
Re suite covers - I do mine on a delicates wash (wish the arm bits would come off too!) despite dire instructions on the labels not to do so, and they come out fine. It's just a faff stuffing the inside bits back in again! However, I am not especially fussy, so only try it if you could cope with shrinkage IF it happened!0

thanks for your response I'll go try it now0

Cloth suites I alwas put the covers back on damp
make sure they can't shrink too much, loads easier to get them back in.
One day I might be more organised...........

I've got a wool cardigan/jacket that desperately needs sorting. The label says DCO but would it be ok on a woollens wash using woolite? It is a little bit big so I don't mind if it shrinks a little, but am worried that it will end up fitting child!
Any suggestions welcome!0 -
I wash everthing dry clean apart from coats and jackets and have never had a problem yet.The only thing I do is put them in one of those net zip up bags incase the garment gets pulled out of shape and use a liqiud detergent.
I was never happy with dry cleaners anyway as things never seemed to come back realy clean.0
