Best Way To Hang Pictures?

But what do you attach to the picture frame/photo frame to make sure it hangs onto the hook and what would it look like?
Call me a dummy...(I give you permission)
Some photo frames come with hooks already attached.
If not, two small eyelets screwed into the back of the frame, one on each side, about 1/3 the way down from the top.
Join the two with picture wire or string. Hook the wire or string over the picture hook.
If it's done right, the picture hook should end up behind the picture, where you won't see it. If it hangs too low, and you can see the hook, then shorten the wire/string.
If the picture hangs crooked, just slide it to the left or right until it hangs straight. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Yeh see I thought that was the best way. Is this the best way for small frames too? How do you make sure that when you hang the wire the frame sits level with other frames though?0

Lots of measuring...............

Fix the wire and eyelets to each frame in exactly the same place, with the wire tensioned exactly the same. If there's a difference in height when they're on the wall, take the picture hook out of the wall and move it by the difference between the picture heights. The old hole will be behind the picture anyway, so no need to fill it.
If you secure the eyelets one-third of the way down the sides, you shouldn't be troubled by wire or hooks showing at the top.
If mismatched heights trouble you, don't try and hang pictures all on one horizontal line. Stagger them.0 -
That was an option. I thought go for the un-OCD look. But I have been looking closely into these 3M Command Picture Hangin strips and although they are slightly more expensive they seem to be a lot cleaner and dare I say, hassle-free.
Has anyone used these on a longer term basis and had a good experience with them?0 -

How about when you go into brick or a plasterboard wall?? I find I have to get the drill out every single time I want to hang a photo and we move them around every so often oh and I don't want to annoy the neighbours every time we put a frame on the wall as the wife has loads.0 -
You can get sticky pads for hanging pictures these days. These for example:
Do a search for "3M Command Strips" to get an idea of what I mean.
I second these having just used them to hang a notice board. They're my new favourite product! If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Thanks for this thread! I'm renting and my old landlord wasn't bothered about holes so I had pictures up - this house is a bit nicer and the landlord said I can put pictures up if I want but I would have to fill in and repaint the holes when I come to move out. I can't be bothered with that so all of my pictures are sat in the spare room. Now that I've seen this I might try the command strips - does anyone know whether they damage the wall at all when you take them off? Obviously if they do then that's not much better for me than picture hooks really!0

I've heard they are flawless only a couple of pictured falling off but some doubt regards reading of instructions properly. I asked my auntie and she has massive house and 100% success rate. I went for drilling eventually as I have a council house and I'm allowed. Every single wall in my house is brick bar one. Drilling and using either sawtooth picture hangers or wire and hooks seems the most common anf reliable option but I would also use command strips, but they certainly are more expensive andthe ones stuck to the wall won't be reusable but the ones attached to the frame will.
Hope this helps a little.0 -
I've recently started using 3M Command Strips and Hooks but haven't tried taking them off yet. I agree that they're pretty expensive, even from eBay. Has anyone ever tried using just the 3M strips with cheaper hooks such as the DIY store own-brand ones?0
