Hi
I have just been stung by Westminster for 'parking in a restricted street...'.
Any help:
I was actually dropping someone off - my lights were on while I stopped - is there a legal definition of 'parked'? I didn't leave the vehicle and the lights were on...
I've also been charged the extra 50% as it wasn't contested - I've only received the letter this morning - I hadn't been contacted before. Do I have any rights here?
£195 makes for an expensive drop off

"my lights were on while I stopped" - why would having lights on make a difference?0
-
How was it issued? Not by a warden i'm guessing.
You can appeal it, contact them asking for proof of the offence0 -
Sneaky cctv...
There's plenty of proof - a nice little video. I'm assuming you either just cannot stop even for a second on that section, or that it's parking if you stop for like 30 seconds or more?
Seems a bit mean seeing as I clearly stopped (relatively) briefly, and wasn't blocking anything.

It wouldn't I know... and I see that there is no distinction between waiting and parking.
Gotta try. Massive fine.0 -

Was it night-time and that is why you had your lights on? The implication being that if you were parked you would have switched them off?0 -

Ha yeah, it wasn't night, I just had them on - vaguely wondering if it might imply that I was only stopping briefly. I'm sure the council would disagree...0 -
Can't see the council being swayed by lights on or off.
But then you never can tell.0 -
£195 sounds as if what you have is a Charge Certificate?London_calling wrote: »I was actually dropping someone off
Restricted street usually means SYL or DYL which both have boarding/alighting exemptions. How long were you stopped for?

Did you not receive the original PCN?0 -

At last, the voice of reason with the right question! I read this thread and thought I was on the wrong section of the MSE forum for a minute, seeing as no-one had pointed out the obvious that £195 = a Charge Cert (very late stage) and also that 'dropping someone off' is an exempt activity if just on normal yellow line(s).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
