So, let me see if I've got this right, because of that mistake on his website here (which I'm not even sure would have been purely down to Martin Lewis) you are claiming that we can trust YOU over HIM right??:rotfl:

I don't believe he said that. I believe you are now taking him out of context for your own argument.

You asked for cases. We gave cases that matched your exact criteria. Now you are changing the goalposts and taking responses out of context.

I also think that it a futile exercise with a pointless objective. Martin is very good at taking on consumer issues and giving them publicity. Trying to compare his role with others that have a completely different objective and regulatory framework to see which is best is just petty.

Martin Lewis carries the can for his actions and like any employer, he is responsible for the actions of his staff. So, whether he did it himself or used a third party, it is him. It was hardly a mistake on his website. It was a lack of understanding of the product being recommended and only by luck did it not result in people losing money.

Please point me to any time I have claimed that you can trust me over him. I have not made any such claim.

I trust a plumber to be skilled in his area. I trust a electrician to be skilled in his area. I would not trust a plumber to be skilled in re-wiring my house.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

You might not have personally but there seems to be one or two here blowing your trumpet on that note and you haven't exactly gone out of your way to argue with them so I can only presume you agree with them:D, for example......

This is like watching a pair of men without c*cks having a p*ssing contest with Ron Jeremy.

I'd trust dunstonh et al far more than I would Martin Lewis, who by and large just tells thick people what they want to hear for a living.
...now forgive me but that sure sounds like Martin Lewis being put down, discredited and you being lifted up in the clouds and made king on this forum to me, which is very odd considering that without Martin Lewis this forum might not have even been here.

Yes, I was literally raising dunstonh to the clouds and making him king of MoneySavingExpert Forums. That is what I was doing, to the letter. I was going to make him a crown but Martin recommended me a sh*t pension so I haven't got a pot to p*ss in now.

Some people make jokes about Ron Jeremy's !!!!!! while saying they trust qualified financial advisers over someone who counsels the terminally thick on ITV, encouraging them to rise up against the big bad banks like a cross between Vladimir Lenin and that crippled plasticine dog that they use to advertise no win no fee lawyers; others coronate forum members. I think we all know which option I chose, and frankly I think it was the right choice.

I of course am thankful to Martin Lewis for the array of stupids his forum has put me into contact with, being as it is a slow motion financial version of Jeremy Kyle. But were MSE not here I'd probably do other things with other stupids on other forums. At the very least I'd probably have a bit more faith in humanity.

    Brilliant :D

Of course MSE is no longer ML's, he is just holding onto a medium for his journalism until the end of the MoneySupermarket deal.

But thats a conversation for the "Sell out or not" thread.

He didn't quite ever say that all bank charges were illegal
You seem to be moving the goal posts.
I will not condone the banks doing that but nor will I condone consumers doing so.

Well as I said, Martin was not telling customers that ALL bank charges were illegal even at that time before it was made clear, he explained what he thought was wrong within bank charges in general back then and bear in mind that a lot of what he said that was wrong with the charges such as them being too high and disproportionate to the reason has been amended by banks since, here's a video of when he explained all about it around 6 years ago, before the Supreme Court ruling, considering that nobody could have possibly predicted that ruling later, none of what he said here has anything that you could say was actually incorrect, it was right at the time, that's the point, if I'm right about something today and 2 years from now it changes does that make me wrong??

I feel what he wrote in that Telegraph article was pretty unequivocal.

How about this though: MSE from 2009
Bank Charges Reclaiming They’re unlawful! Free template letters

And, this from the reclaiming page itself:
All in all, this means, I any many others believe, bank charges are unlawful, so as the banks had no right to grab your cash, but still did it, you’re entitled to get it back.

And his reasoning was utterly blown out of the water later that year when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the banks, most of whom summarily closed any complaints about "unlawful" charges without paying redress.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at in the first link for a start, as for the other two which did at least have a relevance, again, I'll say it till I'm blue in the face (from the rooftop:D)....MARTIN LEWIS NEVER SAID ALL BANK CHARGES ARE ILLEGAL, that's not what he was ever telling people and nowhere on any of those links does he or did he ever say such a thing, he also pointed out even back then that this was all subject to change from the status quo of the time which again he was right to say because the situation did change with that ruling, what advice did he give to customers that was wrong at the time??.....answer....nothing, none of what he said was wrong at the point in time when he said it:).
