1p Ryanair flights + taxes?
Comments
-
When I got their 50p and €1 deals a couple years ago there wasn't any tax to pay at the airport, and I can't see this being any different. It's just advertising, Ryanair pay the taxes on our behalf but they get plenty of write ups in the papers, on forums, etc. Their marketing guys obviously think it's worth it!0

Taxes go to the government, and are obligatory, not set by the airlines. Are you telling me Ryanair would fly passengers to Europe for 1p plus pay the government £50-odd in taxes for the privilege?
I do hope you are going to apologise to al of us who thought we were getting free flights
1 million free flight give away was the headline on the website and not all were domestic.
Turin and hamburg were included along with a few others so YES ryan air are going to be paying the taxes0 -

Relatives of a friend booked to Pisa at 1p per seat but when they got to the airport they had to pay something like £80 in taxes?
Is this right?
I was under the impression that the prices were inclusive of taxes?
I have booked to Milan, and have the confirmation email with details of what was paid. Can I expect an £80 bill when I get to the airport?
I suspect that they paid £80 in luggage charges & excess baggage - not taxes0 -
Thats what Im thinking might have happened. But until I get confirmation from my friend I can only go on what he has already stated.0

Looks like you missed out mate!
If you purchased your flights on the 1 Million Free Flights Promotion offer for travel from 01 June onwards and your total price is £0.01 ew with no taxes charged then you are ok. Ryanair will not try and charge you taxes at the airport.
Ryanair were running their normal £0.01 offer in tandem with this promotion and the tax was additional on this offer. However when you booked the tax was clearly shown and you would be charged at the time of booking. Some novices may not have noticed this and thought they were booking through the 1 Million Free Flights Promotion and only now notice that they have been hit for the tax and additional charges.
The person who travelled in the last few days definitely did not book on the 1 Million Free Flight Promotion as you cannot travel before 01 June0 -

the article states, and this is verbatum
A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "This is about getting bums on seats. We are paying to get passengers into our planes - we'll be paying the tax that they would normally have to pay. There's no point in flying planes empty."

interesting
The cost of the giveaway to Ryanair is likely to be around £10m. A 1m-seat sale involves 500,000 outbound flights
1 million flights cost them £10m, so a flight must cost them a tenner each way!! i always wondered what it cost them!0 -

"There is not much use in booking" said PabloNeruda
"One can't believe in impossible things"
"I dare say,you haven't had much practice" said Michael Oleary
"Why sometimes I've flown as many as a thousand people abroad, for a penny, before breakfast"

In February I flew to Frankfurt and back for a grand total of 2p.
In June I will fly to Hamburg and back for a grand total of 2p.
Needless to say, no taxes will be charged.
If you booked it on the sale, you're fine.0
