A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "This is about getting bums on seats. We are paying to get passengers into our planes - we'll be paying the tax that they would normally have to pay. There's no point in flying planes empty."
Eh? What tax are they paying if the plane has empty seats - the APD is per passenger & aviation fuel is untaxed. Things like VAT on ground handling (assuming it exists) are claimable against profits.

But I agree it's about bums on seats - Ryanair has recently spent 4 billion dollars on new planes and this is the first shot in the overcapacity wars. Expect more seat sales like this and airlines going to the wall .

At the time of the offer there was another thread on the boards with people asking all sorts of questions and booking what they thought were free (1p ew) flights.
Myself,Budgetflyer and a few other regular posters tried to point them in the right direction.

We had all the usual queries from "how do I remove the charge for hand luggage" to "I`ve booked the wrong date, how I can I change it"?

MSE Martin even wrote a special about the offer.

At the time of the offer,if people bothered to read Ryanair`s main page about it,there were only four UK airports the free flights were from.
And then there were only certain ones at 1p (Dublin,La Rochele to name but two)
Then, when you got your travel dates up, some flights were priced as "Reg" and others "Web" fares.
Time after time it was pointed out
it was the "Reg" fares that were 1p NO TAXES.

Ryanair is a great company for offering bargain flights but as I keep saying, you MUST read the T&C`s.
But obviously people don`t and that`s why they knock Ryanair.
