Also, try applying in branch with whoever you hold a current account with.

Thanks for that advice Beano. But I need a card to be able to pay for it

    Hiya Cymro,

Have you tried using Martin's deal to get a free credit scoring?

Personally, I went with HSBC. As I fist came in that country, I had absolutely no credit rating nor anything, nobody would give me anything else than a solo card. Very frustrating when you used to have all what you needed!

I heard good thing from HSBC, I went there, had a credit card in 3days. I closed my account with Natwest, I only had problems with them, and now I am happy with HSBC. Even if it is still not 3years yet I am in England, I have a 3000£ limit credit card. I could not live anymore without internet shopping!

    Good News... and bad...

I have been provisionally approved for a Capital One Card.

But, I need to send them 2 different documents from this list:-

    Mortgage Statement
    Credit Card Statement
Bank and Building Society Statements (with activity in the last 3 months)
    Council Tax Bills
    Electricity Bills
    Gas Bills
    Fixed Line Telephone Bills
    Water Bills
House and Motor insurance certificates - issued in the last 3 months
Bank and Building Society Passbooks (electronically printed)

here's my problem, I live with my parents, so, I don't have a Mortgage; Council Tax bill; Electricity, Gas, phone or Water bills; Don't drive.

I have got two different bank accounts though.
Would these 2 different statements be sufficient, or would I need to send additional items? it also states that the documents must be from the above list.. sigh...

I would think so. In the past I have been in similar situations and sent two CC statements without a problem.
You could ring/email them to be sure.

The last time I got credit report, (it was 3-4 years ago) I sent off a cheque for £2. If you do not have a cheque book do you have a nice friend who you could pay £2 to and get them to write a cheque for you. hth.

i've been in the country for less than two year now (so no electoral and stuff), I rent privately (no council, gas, telephone...) but I got a card from Barclaycard (£300 limit though). I also get the provisional capital one but i had nothing to send to them when they asked for the 2 docs, so after 14 days they cancelled my application. My advice is, apply when you saw them in shopping centre or supermarket, then you have more chance
