Can't get a credit card

I'm having great difficulty in obtaining a credit card.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get one?
Have tried the Capital One "guaranteed" card - but to no avail.
Would like to have a crad so that I can shop online.
I have had debts in the past - but I no longer do.
got a 468 "credit rating"

How come Capital One declined you? They say they will only refuse current bankrupts or people who have taken part in fraud. If you are either of those then you will not get a card from anybody else, and nor should you. If you are not one of those you should apeal it and remind them of their own guarantee.
You did apply for the right Capital One card didn't you? They do several.0 -
I am neither Bankrupt nor involved in Fraud.
I'm sure I applied for the correct one!
Any more help?0 -
How long have you been at your current address ?
Why not get the capital one that asks for a £200 or so deposit on account ?
Give them a call and discuss it with them.0 -

That IS the guaranteed card...and yes they still do it, as I applied for it last week, and today I received my T&C's to sign and return to them.....but still yet to find out my credit limit and if they need a security deposit....between £49-200 FYI
I did find it strange that you had to sign T&C'c contract before knowing what they are willing to offer you!! I really hope i don't need to give them a deposit!! lol But I didn't have to send prove of address and ID so I expect they realise i'm 'legit' lol
I would take deemy's advice cymro1170 and phone them up to see what's up/went wrong....their customer service number is 0800 9525252
Apart form that I think Barclaycard to a type of credit builder CC like the Cap One card but to be honest if Cap One has refused you, it's unlikely that you will be offered one with anyone else....sorry
Just as an afterthought have you recently checked credit report with Experian and Equifax? there might be wrong information on you causing your problems!
Good Luck0 -

Did he have to pay a security deposit by any chance???? lol
Not that i'm trying to ascertain that i may have to with my 2 old defaults from 2000 totalling £79 (ooppps)!0 -
i have had the capital one account for a few years now they accepted me with 2 defaults ,like you they weren't for much. if you have a bank account you can alway use that to buy of the internet as the apr is quiet high on these cards0

just applied for the Capital one card and the barclaycard initial.
Doubt I'll get either0 -
Good luck with your applications...let us know how you get on0

Check your credit file to see if there's anything missing and get it corrected. i.e. Electoral Roll

Also, try applying in branch with whoever you hold a current account with.0
