  • So quick update for today, payday, YAY!

My lovely OH has put some money in the joint, so I will be putting in less than normal this week, giving me extra to pay off the CC's. I also had some money left from last week so bank balance was a healthy £300 this morning.

    So:
£49.something to the home account (I am a stickler for nice round balances, no odd pennies hanging around here!)
£75 popped into the savings account (I know this is a lot when I could pay off the CC but I feel much safer, less panicky knowing I have a round £200 encase of an emergency and not relying on CC)
£70 cash (£7 bus for next week, 20 for food, 43 for spends for tonight and next weekend)
£100.15 to Vanq CC. Balance should be £1069.00 when that goes through!
    £5 left in acc.
Any missing pennies to HSB CC.

Now, can't wait for each Friday, love paying this stuff off.

Bus is less next week as my weekly ticket covers me until Tuesday, and I have Friday off, going to a spa with my Mum, was a present from the OH last xmas, took a while to book :o. Then staying with family for the weekend, 3 nephews to keep me entertained, it's ones birthday, card and pressie included in food shop yesterday :p. I have 3 days accrued paid holiday from the temp agency, so coming back Monday and Tuesday will be for much needed rest :coffee:.

Going out with OH for some drinks tonight, won't be many and all budgeted for

Right really need to do some work, or I won't be asked back next week! ;)

  • Shhh :shhh: I'm back. I really did want to do some work but suddenly thought I need to update my signature and as I wanted it to be as low as possible I decided to pay of next months water bill early as the money is in the home acc anyway! So that's another £20.97 (again with the pennies!) down.

HSB CC was not quite at it's £2500 limit either, stuff I had brought were already showing but couldn't see them until the internet banking updated so.....

New balance is £4827.49 :D Chuffed.

    Now work.....

  • Haha def bored at work today, the sun is shining and I have just lost my snowballin' virginity! Very happy with the result as it matched perfectly when I had worked it out by guessing the interest. So my DFD goal is Jan 2015. Now I wouldn't be a true MSEr if I didn't knock a couple of months of off that, though I might leave that for another day when I am feeling brave, and possibly have myself a permanent job!

Happy weekend y'all! Stay on budget and no you do not need those shoes or that cake. Put it down, well ok just a bite but then put it down!

  • You're back with a vengeance today! ;):D

You seem to have the head well screwed on today regarding finances. That's brilliant! Keep it like that please and stay focussed :)

Roll on DFD Jan 2015! But yes, I would agree and suggest you try to get cleared before the end of 2014. We'll leave that to another day!

Didn't get the cake nor the shoes (nor either of the £200+ watches I was looking at ), but I did get a (much needed!) hair dye :D

    Have a fab weekend :)

  • Well not a lot to update with today. Actually no debt busting at all over the weekend, but stayed within spending budgets and had a great weekend.

We have disconnected out Sky box and moved the goggle box across the room, so no TV for us. It has been just over a week and I can honestly say it has been the best week and weekend for a long time. It is very relaxing and we are getting a lot more stuff done around the house and have the time to read, play games, cook together, go and sit by the beach and cycle rides. I thought I would desperately miss it, but it was making me quite miserable, and I can watch Great British Bake off on the iPad, so all is fine :)
Now the OH just needs to call Sky and either cancel (I have a feeling we are in a 12 month contract) or get the cheapest package possible. This should save between £30-60 a month.

Work is pants, really, really pants. It is taking every once of strength not to get up and walk out. I don't think anyone would like this job, I am really patient and quite chilled normally at work and I feel like I am about to explode. I haven't gone out for lunch as I don't think I will come back! Anyway need to update the CV and get applying to get something better.

  • A bit more productive post, after seriously considering leaving work today, or handing in my weeks notice I thought I would log on and see how the money was doing.

Moved some odd pennies around, paid just over a £1 off Vanq CC and 39p off HSB CC, every little helps and just love everything ending in .00p!

    So I have:
    £276 in savings (£200 emergency/back up, £1 in a flex saver, £75 eIsa).
    -£2359.00 HSB CC
    -£1067.something Vanq CC
    £2 in bank account
    £320 in home account.

Not too bad but this Friday's payday is going to have to cover:
    - minus one day pay as off sick around £60
    - £25 bank charge for going over drawn (yes I know, awful, I am getting a lot better though! I used to regularly get charged a lot more than this :O )
    - 5% DD for HSB CC, just worked this out at £117.95.
    - £50 into home account
    - £40 Bus, food and spending money

Ouch. Going to have to use some savings money to cover around £20 I think. Anyway, it's what it is there for so I feel I have done pretty well.

  • How are you getting on this month with ££? Sticking to budget ok? No harm in cutting a few corners and missing out this month if you are stretching yourself thin. It will and does get easier :)

    How's work going?

  • Thanks HAW.

Work is bad, so bad that combined with my depression and a few other things, I had a panic attack last week and had a complete meltdown. That was Tuesday night, I took the rest of the week off and am back at work today, I have just handed in my weeks notice. I don't have another job yet but I cannot work somewhere that makes me so unhappy. One half feels utter relief, the other slight panic over money!

So I have a week to look for new temp work that can start asap and apply for perm positions. I have £500 savings that if disciplined should last a month. I also have told the folks how I feel and they have offered support and encouragement, which is great.

So no debt busting goals at the moment, just surviving goals!
    1) Apply, apply, apply for work
    2) Sell stuff on eBay
    3) Work out a budget to spend as little as possible of savings
    4) Set myself a daily routine if not working
    5) Check how long money in home account will last
    6) Meal plan with stuff in cupboards
    7) Stay calm, everything will be ok

  • To Do:
    1) Apply, apply, apply for work
    2) Sell stuff on eBay
    3) Work out a budget to spend as little as possible of savings - basically stop spending! Money wise I will be ok for a month, it will then become stressful.
    4) Set myself a daily routine if not working - Done. Bit ambitious but can always tweak it
    5) Check how long money in home account will last - Will double check later (lil' calc log in thing is at home) should be enough for this month, CTax and some of next month.
    6) Meal plan with stuff in cupboards
    7) Stay calm, everything will be ok - Ongoing!

  • Big scary step you took ref work, but you know yourself you hadn't much choice. Really hope you get something else lined up very soon.

Keep a very close eye on your budget and no unnecessary spending. I'm sure you've lots of stuff stashed away in back corners that will prove very useful in the next few weeks.

Meal plan is a must. And if/when you are food shopping, get staple stuff like rice/pasta that you can bulk up any meals with.

Good luck and keep us posted :)
