You still haven't answered.
Why do you think this is your phone?====0 -
If you're not happy with the service that you've had so far from the CEX store - contact their customer services. They might very well be a franchise - but they'll still have a franchise agreement etc.
Something just sounds a bit wrong about this whole thing though (and apologies in advance if it's all above board) but after 'losing' a phone..and then just happening to find it in a CEX shop window..sounds quite improbable. Taking into consideration all the places that the phone could have been - this has got to be staggering odds of it being found in a CEX shop window.0 -

Not necessarily - If I lost a phone in a particular ares, the places I would keep my eye on would be the local CEX and Cashconverters stores, the local market & car boot sales along with sites such as Gumtree, Ebay etc.
As for recognising the phone - who knows? - perhaps some type distinguishing mark - crack in case? Or perhaps the OP got lucky and hit the jackpot having asked to view the phone? Only the OP can say.0 -
Only the OP can say.
But doesn't seem to want to, OP has already been asked a couple of times why they think its their phone.
The IMEI label (which is virtually impossible to replicate outside the factory) appears to show a different IMEI to the OPs phone, so the likelihood is very high it isn't the OPs phone.====0 -
Another thought, if you report your mobile lost the network will block the phone rendering it of little use to second hand shops...0
-
Your network should be able to provide the IMEI that you used to make calls.
If the phone has the same IMEI then it's yours, as the 2 codes tie together as proof.0 -
CEX is a bit more advanced than that.
They simply scan the barcode inside the phone, usually under the battery.
Similar with Cash Converters. That's not good practise, there is no guarantee that the IMEI of the motherboard matches that sticker. Should check both.
My network Vodafone have been close to useless. They didn't know my IMEI. Perhaps because the sim card had expired. On my 2nd call (online chat rang my landline) the guy said he'd email HQ and asked what my IMEI was which i gave.
I rang a week or so later on Wed 5 June and they knew nothing about it. On Saturday I rang the police again and gave them my IMEI to put on their database. On Sunday CeX's database didn't have my IMEI reported as lost or stolen.
****
Anyway later on Tuesday (yesterday) i went to my local newspaper's office and explained it and discussed it for ¼ of an hour. He reckoned bad publicity for the shop, best use police.
So i went to the police station, told can wait in waiting room or we'll call you but ofcourse i didn't have a mobile and thought i'd not stay at home waiting for the phone to ring or wait in the police station. He said i could come back in 2 hours.
Anyway I come back in 20 minutes and then soon after a bobby walks in and I explain it to him about typing in *#06#.
We go together to the shop and the police officer says data protection act so i can't see number he can and it looks like he types in *#06# and compares it to my IMEI and says its not like mine.0 -
So basically, you've seen a phone in a shop which you thought was yours, the shop said wasn't and the police have verified isn't your phone?
With respect, you've spent a lot of time, and that of a policeman on this.
VF will have your IMEI, they capture it every time the sim is active.
My local Tesco have sim free handsets for a tenner....just saying.0 -
You are being rude. And are you simple? I have quoted what Rusty and pd3 said twice already. Here's it is a third time...

Now I've been getting distracted dealing with trolls. My OP question was...
When CeX buys a phone have you seen the staff type in *#06# ?
May I also ask pb3 to clarify or to anyone else if they have sold a phone to CeX?
and at the time CeX did not type in *#06# ?0 -
It gets worse. About Vodafone, how many times do i have to say to timewasting trolls in this thread that VF customer service wouldn't tell me my IMEI?0
