A new scheme backed by Microsoft is offering consumers in Briton PCs and laptops from just £24.
Get Online @ Home has launched today to help millions of households across the UK to get connected. The scheme is offering eligible consumers a refurbished computer for as little as £24 and broadband for £2.99 per month. See also: What is Windows Blue? Everything you need to know about Windows 8.1.
Baroness Lane-Fox, founder of Go ON UK, the charity behind the scheme said: "With the cost of internet access cited as a key reason for not being online, this is an incredible saving and will transform the lives of everyone that hasn’t been able to get online before."
Britons on housing benefit, income support, job seeker's allowance, pension credit and others benefits are eligible for a PC for £99 or a laptop for £149.
A special offer £75 discount for those also signing up for broadband at the same time means a Windows 7 PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse costs just £24. The offer will last until the end of June.
Even if you're not on one of the qualifying benefits, prices are set at £149 and £179 for a PC or laptop respectively.
The PCs and laptops, supplied by Computer Recyclers, Stone, Partners IT and other come with a minimum 2GHz processor, 60GB hard drive, a CD drive, Microsoft Office Basic and a 12 month warranty. "many devices will be better than this" said Get Online.
The scheme aims to get households online as those which are not lose out economically. More and more services are online and three quarters of jobs have online application forms.

Isn't that link just broadband, i can't see a mention of a computer.
I've been making my small junk-room upstairs into a computer room. i wonder if they'd let me have a second computer to go in there for £24. I don't think i'd need the broadband would i, that's already here in the lounge.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

There is no £24.99 computer. It's the same £99.99 pile that they offered to the unemployed (or whoever), but they give a £75 rebate to anyone who takes on one of their BROADBAND AND LINE RENTAL 'deals'.
So the computer is still £99.99, you just get cashback on the Broadband and line rental bundle.
I picked that up within a minute of looking at the article.
So you could buy that pile for £99.99(if you are on benefits of some kind) and get your own broadband and line rental, cheaper and with better cashback, as I illustrated for you. Then the computer would cost minus blah-blah, according to their particular form of marketing.

Do shut up, Thanks.I got it in an email and just copied it across, if it's not for you don't do it, pretty damn simple tbh
See above
Should we all just 'copy across' any old SPAM the we receive via email?
At the least you should read it, absorb it and explain it for the benefit of those less able to decipher the 'marketing'.
'Copying it across' makes it all the more a careless and unthinking act.0 -
It wasn't spam...jeez. It was an email from pcadvisor. I'll do what i like thanks or has someone suddenly made you a moderator on here?0

Feel free, but understand that whatever you post is open to scrutiny by others.
Otherwise this forum would be swimming in...rubbish.
So calm down. If you wish to prevent such an occurrence in the future, don't just 'copy over' any old rubbish.0
