Don't underestimate your main dealer. I was looking for 245/45 WR 18 Bridgestone Potenzas and my local Mazda dealer was easily the cheapest I could find.

I have used http://www.fasttyres.co.uk/ in the past and had good service and seem quite cheap as well.

I too have used this company in the past, the service was great and the prices were fantasic. I recommend them to anyone.
  • Out of curiosity I entered my registration mark into tyre-shopper. The correct vehicle details came up but worryingly the totally incorrect tyre width, diameter and load rating was shown. I know it's possible to just enter correct tyre details and search but it doesn't inspire much confidence when they can't get the correct tyre initially.
I wonder how many people have just gone ahead and ordered with this wrong information only to find the error when the tyres are fitted(or not)! Not much of a saving then unfortunately.

Please, please, please avoid budget tyres for the sake of saving pennies. They are the most important component in making your car stop!

Get the best you can afford, I had a guy run into the back of me because his tyres were crappy TDFs (Taiwanese Ditch Finders), cost him more than the price of some decent rubber.

Good reasonably priced tyres such as Vredestein and Toyo are great for the money.

Oh and if you really want to save money in the long run a cheap set of alloys that take a popular size such as 195 50 15 may be worth considering.

Oldagetraveller - sometimes the tyre company may have sourced their data from abroad where the wheel and tyre packages supplied are different, for e.g. on my Gen5 Celica www.mytyres.co.uk none of the options are correct for the OEM wheels on my car.
  • i also confirm what limey says

i love the way how people bang on about how safe their car is in crash tests then opt for the cheapest tyres they can find

when looking at second hand cars you can often work out what sort of car has gone into the car by looking at the state of the tyres

yeah cheap ditch finders are false economy ...its all that keeps you on the road

nicer tyres will be quiter too and last longer
  • I used Tyre-Shopper a few weeks ago after seeing them mentioned on this site. It was most puzzling ! I checked a few of the online sites for the tyres I needed, tyre-shopper was the cheapest ( comparing exactly the same tyre, the same brand and everything ). So I thought I'd phone a few local tyre places to see if they could do it cheaper. The cheapest local place wanted £75 per tyre, compared to £50 per tyre on tyre-shopper ( again, for exactly the same tyre ). So I said "No thanks, I've seen it cheaper online" The chap said "Is that on tyre-shopper ? We're the fitting centre for them". So I bought on tyre-shopper, printed off the voucher and took it down to this place, no hassle whatsoever. How does that work ? The exact same tyre, supplied and fitted by the same garage, £25 cheaper just by booking it online rather than in person ? Seems daft to me, but I'm not complaining !
