Dealing with dodgy car dealer/Trading standards
Comments

I wish I had seen your post earlier:/ My story - car started having problems a few hours after purchasing. I contacted him the next money and ask for my money back.We had a massive argument with him hanging up on me and me getting really frustrated. When I mentioned him that I will report the case to the Trading Standards he did not seem to care about it. All I want is my money back. I am now thinking to apply for a Visa scheme as you did and wondering if you have any success with it. Thank you.
I didn't have success with VISA - but you might - give it a go.
Adnan Khalid has now been successfully prosecuted in court (http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/10782799.Dodgy_car_dealer_fined/). But has already registered a new business (e.g. "Stargate Cars" this week) presumably to avoid further legal action. I would get to the small claims court ASAP. His brothers and father communally manage a variety of motor sales companies along Rosebank road and where it changes to Russell road E17/E10 - and have regularly changed names every 1-2 years.
There is now a large group of us - would you like to be involved?
I wonder if anyone else has any suggestions of how to pursue these issues (and protect the public), when the individual "businessmen" hide behind limited companies and regularly close them down and open up under another name? Trading standard has obviously intervened - but the current intervention is minimal and seems essentially just like a token effort, and will not effect any change of practice.0 -

If there are enough in the group who are reasonably local and willing, turn up and picket the place, after tipping off the local news channels? As long as you don't enter the property you're free to stand outside with big signs until he calls the police and they ask you to disperse - which would make great footage for the local news:
"In other news, the police today took action to support a local used car dealer when many of his previous customers organised a protest against his dodgy trading uder a number of names, depsite recent convictions for trading standard offences"
As long as any banners are factual and a matter of record, eg: "this guy's just been convicted" / "this is the 5th name in as many months for this company" but (presumably) not "this guy fiddles with sheep on the weekends", there's not a whole lot he can do apart from complain about the disturbance.
Which means, even if the police do turn up, as long as you disperse when asked you can come back and do exactly the same thing tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that......0 -

spot on. Well worth getting in touch with the local paper etc You should be able to time it all quite nicely. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Anyone had success with getting refund from Bluegate? Thanks0

I'd file your case with the small claims court ASAP as they will be shutting down the companies pretty shortly, I imagine....
I hope you've reported to trading standards?0 -
The same group are opening up under a new name, BD Trade Sales bdtradesales.co.uk - so I suspect there will be limited time to get claims in0

Bought an astra sept 15 over the phone as I could not get there to view as I had no car and am disabled but trusted the excellent write up and kind salesman. Paid full price as he said no offers, we all waited in for delivery but they were very late and it was dark and by now everyone had gone out and I was left in and as they parked it down a side street could not get out to check it. Next day my son looked to find no rubber on windscreen wipers, rear bumper severely scratched, needed new brake pads and discs, rear drivers side head lamp cracked, front two tyres on way out and front side mirror casing put together with black tape, and half missing. First bill Sept, wiper blades, front discs and pads, coil pack, break cleaner, door mirror cover and fan belt £260 to which after a while he paid. Dec car broke down twice, bill headgasket, cambelt kit, headskimming, recovery, coolant radiator, coolant fan with labour £1077.48, went to warranty to claim money back but they refused as we had only done 500 miles and trader should have seen all these problems before selling, asked Danny for money back as it was our Christmas money, even broke down to my embaressment and he promised several times to get money back to me, but never has, jobs still to be done, new wingmirror, 2 severly worn out pipes and respray for scratches. Have also paid out for a burst pipe, an extra recovery and two new tyres. This car came with a years mot, really. What upsets me is that he knows I am disabled and even asked if a wheelchair can fit in the boot. I have contacted bank re my visa today and they can't help so next step trading standards. Please no one buy from this low life who does not care who he robs.. One more thing the garage who done the repais reckons that this had a front impact accident.0

trading standards probably wont help you directly, but you should complain and the more complaints a trader gets the bigger their wrap sheet becomes at TS until they are forced to take action.
Even then if the individual is protected under a ltd they will most likewly just dissolve and set up another company on the same premisis.
There are soooo many dodgy/illegal traders in the country they dont have the resources to deal with individual cases like this.0 -
