I thought house buying stress revolved around packing boxes... How wrong was I!!

My husband and I held the belief that we would not suffer the unfortunate stress resulting from packing boxes and arranging vans as we have moved a million times or more :)

It has come as quite a shock to discover our short tempers, increased anxiety and bordering on insane impatience developing over the last four weeks.

We have now swapped the image of stressing and shouting during the day of the move, for more realistic almost therapeutic images of us climbing in to solicitors and local authority offices and doing the bloody paperwork ourselves lol.

I spent the majority of the past four weeks trawling MSE forums... Insanely looking for clarity to the question.... "When should we expect to complete".. Quite tragic when we have yet to exchange, receive back searches or viewed a contract :)

I'm typing now trying to provide myself with some comfort...to give me the feeling that I am actually doing something...

If any of you MSErs have any tips on how to get through this insane limbo, I would appreciate your advice. We have packed as much as we can.

Huge respect to all others battling the process :) and all those whom came out on the other IDE with their heads still in tact :)

Dreaming is a pointless exercise if it only serves to reinforce your own limitations.
For my familys sake I no longer dream, I will plan and I will try and if I fail I will try and try again.
Failing is far better than dreaming. :)

  • Haha... And dare I ask... How long did the process take you? My solicitor has gone on annual leave until the 17th... Should I, can I ask his partners to work on his behalf?

    Move to Scotland.

When you offer on a property up here, the offer includes an entry date, and the seller accepts offer price and entry date. In 99.99% of cases, that date remains fixed, and you know when you'll be moving.

I find a gin and tonic helps....
  • Maybes little late for that :) but I agree, the process could certainly be made easier.

I suppose in England we remain polite and patient in situations where others may scream and shout... I may need to shout a little more.

Has anybody completed as whilst solicitor is on leave... Using a colleague?

Waiting for solicitors is incredibly frustrating, this is such a big step for me I feel like I should have far more involvement in this than I actually have. I've got the mortgage and deposit so from my side I'm just sitting for weeks waiting for someone to tell me something. Fortunately I came home on Thursday to a couple of pounds of paperwork, that made me feel a little more like something was actually happening :)
  • It is certainly that lack of control that ignites the irrational side :) The problem also inflates whilst depending upon people whom aren't remotely interested in your own personal dead lines.

How odd it is to pack to move to a home we are yet to have the keys to :)

  • Whilst saving for deposit etc, we decided to ban alcohol until our celebratory first night in drink.... How unwise :) gin without the tonic is certainly appealing :)

Same position here, ours is an easy sale. We're buying from MIL, she's buying an empty house. Why have we been waiting since 26/03/2013? Our answer was our local searches took an AWFUL long time to come back. We're in the lucky position where if our solicitor has been told something *slightly* untrue we can check with directly with MIL.

She just told us yesterday that her solicitor wants to exchange/complete by Wednesday next week - ours hasn't told us that bit yet so we'll see!

It got to a point where I just thought "OK, I accept there's nothing I can do to make it happen", as soon as I thought that, things all fell into place and rushed forwards.
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

We keep getting paperwork with mistakes on it. Nothing happens unless I pester them. I think it would be quicker and easier if I learnt conveyancing and then did it myself!
