In Manchester as well - I intend to rent a van at ~ £45 for a day or two if necessary, and I'll be buying a couple of my friends drinks and spending some time on the console with them while duping them into helping us move :D

Is it a lorry (I.e a 7.5 tonne van) or a smaller Luton type van you need and have been quoted for?

A 7.5 tonne van will increase costs (different license, insurance, operators license etc.).

House insurance rarely covers removals unfortunately. Removals forms should havevGoodd in Transit, home insurance only works when either in or on the premises - and only then if you have accidental damage cover.

Rightmove has a selection of removals firms and ratings - check there maybe...?

And if you're moving on a less popular day (Tuesday to Thursday) don't be afraid to haggle!

Assuming you're using a "professional removal company", some companies only provide cover if the professional removal company pack the boxes

Firstly the majority of Home Insurers provide cover for the owners contents during a move generally excluding valuable / chinaware (They will have their own definition of what they define as valuables) items which they recommend you carry yourself.

Secondly whether you have Accidental Damage is irrelevant with most Home Insurers.

Thirdly a Home Contents Policy will generally pay claims on a "New for Old Basis" (Assuming it's not repairable) normally excluding clothing and linen which are paid on an "Indemnity" basis.

Most Goods In Transit Policies (Which a removal company would be using) would pay all claims on an "Indemnity" basis which basically means they deduct "Wear and Tear" eg if you have say a fridge that has an expected life expectancy of ten years and it's damaged beyond repair after say 5 years then you would receive 50% of it's new value.

Fourthly you mention only covered whilst "in or on the premises", the companies offering removal cover within Home Contents will normally provide cover whislt being loaded, in transit and being unloaded / unpacked by the professional removal company, with many providing cover of say 24 hours whilst in storage between addresses.

Anyone wishing to rely on their Home Insurers cover should check their policy wording and / or speak to their Insurers.

Note some Home Insurers subject to you Insuring the new address with them once you move.

It would be wise for you to check your facts before making such (Incorrect) generalisations.

The mov everywhere guy does not show on his website his Limited Company name or registered address on his website which is a big no no. Companies House could fine him if they find out.

He's not registered the website correctly either as he shows as not being a business and with holds his address. Again not on, although this will be corrected in about 10 days time.

Nick you're lecturing about other companies being unprofessional and spamming. Spend some time getting you're own affairs in line with business rules
