  • I pay a decent labourer £115-00 a day........Skilled (time served) chippies , Plumbers/heating engineers, brickies and sparkies are anything from £175-£240 a day. Plasterers and decent decorators are around £145-£160 a day...

Competition is the name of the game. It keeps prices down.
Most of the work installing or repairing a central heating system is just plain routine and just one responsible skilled man can oversee several jobs. Not unlike the English apprentice system.
    Protectionism isn't MONEYSAVING.

Competition is fine - but unskilled or semi skilled is not comparable competition for a tradesman.

There is a myth, perpetuated by the likes of the Daily Mail that all labour from Eastern Europe is hard working and conscientious. I have witnessed the drinking, the fighting, and hiding to avoid work. This is not from all, it is a minority. But when men are couped up in the evenings, miles from home, not mixing with the UK population, drink and its consequences becomes a problem for some.
