Realistic Hourly rates for Trades

I live in the SW of England and am setting up my own business whereby I will need to recruit reliable tradesmen to carry out work on my behalf. To these rates, I will apply a margin.

What HOURLY rates should I realistically be expected to pay for each of the following:-

Block Paver (Driveways) Builder Carpet Fitter Dryliner Electrician Fencer (Fencing) Flooring Specialist Garage Door Fitter / Repairer Gardener Handyman Heating Engineer Painter / Decorator Plasterer Plumber Tiler Tree Surgeon UPVC Window Fitter Welder

Also, have I missed any obvious trades??

Thanks in advance

Are you intending to employ the tradesmen on PAYE or on a self employed contractor basis?. If they will be self employed then it would be better to have them quote for the work otherwise they will be on a day rate which would work out more expensive in the long term and expect to get around 6hrs per day of actual work out of them.

Couldn't tell you if you have missed any trades unless you tell us what line of business your entering..

Something doesn't quite sit right with me about this thread. OP sounds more like spam/promotion than a genuine request?

I am quite horrified that you seem to be taking on all the responsibilities and legislation for quality and legality of building work .... without already having a team of reliable people you trust, nor a clue about rates gained from some experience.

Rockingit - This is NOT spam so am unsure what does not sit right with you.

PasturesNew - Horrified you may be, but by using fully qualified individuals, the quality and legality will be adequately covered! I do have a clue about rates but am doing some more research!

Anybody else with positive constructive comments, please feel free to post.

    Thanks

Most trades will only work on a fixed price and not interested in day /hourly rates

If you have an idea of rates, then that suggests you already have trade contacts you're planning to use? You're best discussing with those individuals what they'll accept. Good tradesmen will make or break your business and they can, to an extent, name their price.

The wide range of trades you have listed suggests you're planning to sub-contract to individuals on a self employed basis, rather than employ them on a PAYE basis? As other posters have said, most trades in those situations won't work on an hourly rate. Some will work on a day rate for some situations but by and large will expect to price individual jobs.

I wish you luck finding a good Tree Surgeon who will work on that basis!

We pay two self employed Builders/Masons £100 per man per 8 hr day, no problems as long as they are supervised.

Thats [STRIKE]too[/STRIKE] very cheap considering they have working expenses like Public liability insurance, commercial vehichle insurance, accountancy fees, vehicle running costs, tools, etc etc..

The individual job pricing makes sense and I accept that this would be the case on many occasions, which isn't a problem for me.

However, trying to benchmark what each trade could realistically charge is easier for me to do by asking for "hourly rates" as it would be impossible for me to do it on here asking for a "price for a job" without providing a list of detailed real life examples with pictures etc for each trade which is not practical. I hope this makes sense!?

I genuinely didn't think that it was a big ask when I added the post, as all of the people I have already approached and had discussions with have just provided an hourly rate straight away! Maybe I was wrong...

If your getting builders/masons for £100 a day I expect they need lots of supervision!
