Just out of interest, what type of lock is this that can be opened by a key on the outside when a key is in the lock on the inside?

I was going to ask that too. There's been an awful lot of threads like this from first-time posters lately...

I would suppose its a mortice lock and if the key was lined up correctly in can be pushed out from someone putting a key in on the outside. but i'm only guessing.

Ah of course. The Op possibly forgot to mention this which confused me.

The OP should note its not really a habit to get into but if they do make sure its not lined up.

It is simply not normal to check who is "knocking horrendously on doors and windows" of your property.

It sounds like a typical tenant who is ducking the landlord because they can't pay their rent.

If someone knocked on my doors or windows late at night I wouldn't look either.

Only one month in arrears - dont like the only attitude - you are in arrears not that it excuses the landlords behaviour but I would imagine you will have to find somewhere else at the end of your tenancy and without a reference.

What guarantees do you have that you will get a good reference anyway?

A reference can be just: i confirm the above named person rented my property from x - y.

Landlord shouldn't really have been there in the first place. Lonely on your pedestal?

Should my Mrs EVER say to me that the LL turned up late at night whilst I was out and invited himself into her bedroom. I would not be using a key or knocking on his window to enter his home, but even that would be the very least of his troubles.

He should be reported straight away, what he has done is ILLEGAL.
