The council will only sell to your gran. Even if you give her the money she'll be taxed on it and her name will be on the deeds, not yours. Although of course she could leave it to you in her will, if she doesn't leave it to her daughter..................

you obviously have it all planned out, emigrating..living the sunny life..
you have seen a way to make money simple.
Do it the normal way like everyone else.
It isn't your house
you arent a council tennant
you don't need the social to help house you...but you are makeing plans out of your aunts council house to aid the family you don't have or to set up home abroad.
My opinion still stands you are trying to get benefit from something that isn't yours and is not/was not there for your benefit.
I am all for a bargain, a good deal etc, but this is the reason why so many families on the poverty line have such a poor quality of life....waiting and waiting for a home..a home from a system that was designed for families in need, children living in bedsits, b n b's, families having to escape abusive partners, needing to move areas..
families who work their butts off trying to provide for their family but tsill can't earn enough to even rent a home.
This is why these homes are needed and not for some nephew to get ££ in his eyes for unconceived children or villa in the sun.
wrong on so many levels0 -

I sense you speak from experience my friend.
Have you yourself partaken of said deed?
Tell me my friend.
Have you denied someone a home through greed?
In the hope of feathering your own nest.
Is HPI your friend, my friend?Whenthemusicstopsmakesureyou'renotleftstanding0 -
your gran has to agree to buying the house .Some councils will only sell to family members who live in the property . Ask the council what there policy is .0

I can't decide whether you're a Quaker or a wannabe poet. In any case your questions are totally irrelevant and of no help to the OP..................

aside from the moral aspect of you gaining from goverment subsidised housing intended for the less fortunate, i hope you are happy with a 30+ year investment you cant really cash in, think about it you need your aunt to die.
i guess you could remortage but appart from the added expence involved in mortgaging a place with a sitting tennant paying next to nothing and who given the lenght of time has all sorts of legal protection.
then there is the risk if the home gets reposesed if things go wrong, how would your gran/aunt like to be in the position that you get into a financial mess/divorced etc where she could be evicted and refused another council house since you would have blown hers.
for what its worth the i belive if you lived in a council in scotland you get first choice if the leaseholder dies, might want to check that with the council cause if it is then why bother.
on a strict financial basis if say your rent is likely to be £58 a month which is believable on a council property, and say you get a 50% discount on a 100K property value with your aunt living 30 years as a tenant then interst on a 50k at 6% would mean you losing £200 a month on the interest you could have got from the capital and having to pay for upkeep and buildings insurance etc.0 -
