Mags the kitten

The vet explained that they weighed him and calculated the amount of anaesthetic needed. She said he was fine on the operating table and fine after the injection then she realised his heart had stopped and tried to resuscitate him and shot 3 adrenaline shots straight into his heart but couldn't bring him round. There will always be a small doubt that maybe there could have been an error but the vet was adamant that Mags had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic. I still can't believe there's a bloody grave in my garden and a 2 year old kitten in it. So unfair :-(0

Sometimes life isnt fair when it comes to your cats, weve always had cats, my mum lost 2 last year, girl killed on the road, my mum lives a street behind a road but its not a main road and the cats dont wander far but for some reason her young cat tried to cross the road and a car hit her, she was 3.
Then one of my mums male cats died of FIV last september, he was 9.
Ive only ever had one cat neutered, my ginger tom as he was a stray when I got him and he was fighting with my other cats.
You cant blame yourself, it wasnt your fault. And its natural to blame yourself but you were doing what you thought was best.
When I lost my first cat I had when I moved out of the family home, when he died I had other cats, but I wanted to save a cat that was in a shelter and it didnt replace him, nothing ever could, but it helped me and theres always a cat who needs a home.
I waited about 6 weeks after he died before I got another and some people said it was too soon, but I wasnt trying to replace my cat that died, I was just trying to give another cat a home.
Theres also cats who need fostered as well. They are like part of the family, I cried for days when my cat died and it took me a good 6 months to feel half ok, I had had him ten years.
Time is the only thing that helps and its easy to say, I should have done this or that, you were doing it for the best reasons.0 -
I'm so sorry about Mags.
I lost one of my mum's cats to a car yesterday. She was 3.
I also lost one in the same way 5 and a half years ago, he was also 3.
There was nothing I could have done for either but I still blame myself and wonder if I'd done this or that, would they still be here? But it absolutely isn't your fault. We do what we think is best and sometimes it goes horribly wrong.
I have other cats but if I didn't I would definitely consider getting another. Not to replace Phoenix but because my home wouldn't feel right without a cat and because so many cats need a loving home.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear about Mags, and Spike 241 I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mums cat too. Its an awful thing to happen but I hope you will eventually be able to find some comfort in the fact that he knew he was loved and well cared for.
Perhaps and only you will know when at some time in the future you will feel ready for another cat. We lost our cat Sparkle to a car 4 years ago and got a kitten Angel some 6 weeks after Sparkle had passed away. Angel had been abandoned in a cardboard box at 3 weeks old and goodness knows what would have happened to her if she hadn't been rescued, she will and could never replace Sparkle but we all love her just as much as we loved Sparkle, adopting her helped our hearts to heal and gave us a much needed boost as we watched her kittenish antics. Mags will be locked into your heart forever just as Sparkle is locked into mine. Cats need us just as much as we need them.loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0 -
I am so sorry for the loss of your cat. Anaesthesia does carry some risk for animals the same as it does with humans. I lost my best (human) friend two years ago as she had a massive stroke while undergoing 'routine' knee surgery. The worst thing is that she had battled and survived a very aggressive bone cancer.
My own lovely staffy, had a reaction to Anaesthetic while being neutered and although she came round and seemed quite herself she suffered epileptic seizures from then on.
It didn't stop me from having new pets neutered though. The benefits do outweigh the risks. but, I totally understand you would want your pets to have been 'done' already.
I hope you get your two lovely new adoptees - in mags's memory.
Good luck!0
