Like everyone else I am so sorry to hear of your lossI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Thanks everyone for your kind words, support and encouragement.
We are going away for my dad's birthday and for my partner's sister's wedding in July so i think we'll try and make the most of those and we'll see what happens in August.
It does feel empty without Mags at home and our older cats is wandering around looking for him which is so sad to watch.
We will never forget Mags but I do feel his passing won't have been in vain if we use the money for his op to rescue a couple of cats.
I just hope my older cat takes to them but will worry about that when the time comes.
I looked on a local pet rescue website yesterday and was heart broken to see 2 beautiful female cats had been there since September 2011. So cruel and I wish I could take them now but it wouldn't be fair leaving them so quickly in their new surroundings.
Still wish i could have Mags back though. :-(0 -
So....
After my male kitten kept roaming and disappearing for days I decided it was time for him to be neutered for his own safety.
Apparently un-neutered cats roam up to 5 miles looking for a mate which leaves them in danger of being run over. They also fight with other dominant toms and neutering them is supposed to prolong their lives.
Checked him in - he was a bit distressed as has never been in a cat box. Got a call at 13:30 yesterday to say he died under anaesthetic and they couldn't revive him.
Instead of taking him home for lovely food and treats we dug a grave and buried him under our cherry tree - his favourite place in the garden.
I'll never forgive myself for taking this poor healthy boy to his premature death. I am so devastated and the house feels so empty without him.
It hasn't sunk in yet - I still expect him to be coming to greet me when i'm home from work and he always slept by my feet in bed.
Apparently the odds of this happening are 100,000/1 and my poor kitten was that 100,000th one.
If i hadn't taken him he would be sitting in the garden loving his life.
I can't believe this has happenend!!!
I'm sorry he didn't make it through the anaesthetic - but it is just as likely that, had you not taken him in, he would be dead in the road, killed by a dog or stolen by somebody who took a fancy to a cute kitten. And the chances are that you would never, ever find out what had happened to him. If not today, then tomorrow, or the day after that.
You did the right thing and unfortunately, he was the cat in 100,000. The odds of ending up dead as a consequence of not being neutered are much higher - and if he got hurt whilst out, he would therefore have died under any anaesthetic, whether for castration or for repairing a broken leg.
My cats are under the cherry tree as well, by the way.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

If you like the look of them, why not go to see them? If you explain your circumstances, perhaps the rescue would be happy to keep them until August. As they've been there for so long I would hope the fact that they would have a guaranteed home (if you decided they are the cats for you) in a couple of months would help.
Sorry for the loss of little Mags.0 -
oh so so sad. You were doing your best for him and bad luck came and stole him away.0

Talk to where the lovely cats are, as they have been there so long they may do what the local rescue centre did with my mum.
This particular cat had been advertised for a very long time, and my mum was interested but at that time they had a near holiday so were waiting till after, however the cat place just said she could come back to stay during so there was no worry about that. She has special diet and skin issues, so mum was worried about leaving her in a new cattery, and with the food problems. They'd rather she took the cat then to bond for a few weeks "for a test" and have her back to visit, than wait till after. It was emotionally better for the cat, and basically with in a day it was pretty obvious she wasn't gunna go back as a perm resident!
Register your interest, explain your circumstances, and see what they say. You have nothing to lose!0 -
Also very sorry to hear about your kitten. Still, at least you know that he did pass away without any pain nor suffered after a long illness etc. His life was short but 100% quality to the moment he fell asleep.0

Hi everyone - thanks again for your kind words. Just to update you all we found 2 cats that need to be re-homed together and have been in the rescure centre for 7 years. My heart broke for them and they are worth so much more than that. I have sent an enquiry to the rescue centre and have applied for written consent from my landlord to get permission to take 2 cats in. Fingers crossed we will see what happens but 2 neglected sad boys might just get a loving home and it's all thanks to little Maggie.0

Oh no I am really sorry OP. I had the exact same thing happen to me years ago as a student - basically, the vet had overanaethetised the cat during surgery and she died. the worst bit was they made me pay a massive vet bill which took ages to settle at a time when I was really upset about it and quite cross with the vet.
You must be feeling so sad - it's not just a cat...that was your fluffy buddy:-(0 -
So sorry about your cat OP - did the vet explain what happened/why it happened? Was it a mistake on their part?
All 4 of my boys and 3 girls (dog and 2 cats) are neutered, no idea how would I deal if anything happened to them, you must feel terrible, so sorry for you and the poor cat.
