Hi, my partner wants to open a bank account, he has always just used his dad's for his wages to go into but now he needs his own. Problem his he has no ID so I'm not to sure where we should start looking. Do any banks offer basic bank accounts without any ID?

There is no way to get a bank account without ID, or without being present on databases such as the Electoral Register and CRA files.

Which bank does he want the account with? Each bank has a list of acceptable ID. For example, Nationwide's is here.

It will help with the account application if s(he) decides whether to apply as male or female.
  • haha, sorry rushed typing, lol! He isn't on the electoral roll at his flat, though he is still on it at his dad's house. His wage slips all say his dad's address on them too, not his own flat :s
To be honest any bank that will let him open an account will do

He doesn't have any of those proof of name items on the list..actually I don't think he has any of the proof of address items either :s

Why doesn't he just get some ID?

He doesn't have the spare cash to pay for a provisonal or a passport and to be honest he doesn't want either of them. He isn't planning on learning to drive or leave the county, so doesn't actually need them.

So doe's he not have any of the things listed with his fathers address on?

If he does can he not use that and open an account at his fathers address and then in a few months change the address to his flat?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

He must have a birth certificate, so that's one of the Nationwide ones ticked.

For proof of address, he should be able to use his council tax bill.

He should also register on the Electoral Roll - - this will massively improve his chances to get an account.

Have a look at this - very comprehensive help. If nothing from that list suits, he can forget about a bank account.

Well he didn't have any bills when he lived at his dad's so nothing with his address on it. He doesn't have any bills now either. He doesn't have to pay council tax, so nothing there either :s

For nationwide it says birth certificate id only accepted if you are under 18, he's not.

No gas or electric bills come to his address, flat is electric only and he has a prepay meter. His phone is pay as you go, so no contract with address on it either. Only thing he has is a rent card.

Does he have a council tax and water bill? Why doesn't he register for the electoral roll at his own address?

He could also show his rent book and tenancy agreement?

I am amazed that absolutely none of the ones on the MSA list would be within reach. Are you sure he exists?
