My rant was in response to someone asking something, which is actually illegal (ask am led to believe) so i Pointed it out in a really nice friendly way as I'm sure the OP wasn't intentionally breaking the law, and some horrible person just put....'another NEW law then?'

As if I'd make up a law!

I then copy and pasted where I'd read it from and. Got verbally attacked saying the CAB are wrong and its a misguided website.

Well I was only trying to answer th OP question.

    I give up!

Best way I find is just to ignore it (easier said than done sometimes I know!). Life's too short for fighting on the Interwebs.

Plus whoever's wound you up gets no satisfaction. :)

    Ah, I see.

It was this thread that set you off:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4636849=

I think you really should be prepared to be challenged if you post something that isn't actually true - but in your quoted post above you are still saying that you are right and that it is illegal to open someone else's mail, despite a number of posters on that linked thread telling you that you are wrong.

Rather than giving up, I think you need to grow a thicker skin - and maybe bone up on what is actually illegal or not if you are going to give advice.

Know what you mean, I've been slapped for making assertions I believed were true, but after research I learned otherwise! It has got me into the habit of double checking assertions, or if I can't validate the assertion disclaiming it with 'as I understand it...' or the like, or posit the point for someone smarter to confirm/refute.

I can be wrong sometimes, apparently. If you don't take someone's childish point scoring personally it makes life a lot easier!

Well, this is what another poster said about CAB on the other thread:
    olly300 wrote: »
What the CAB and Which state is their interpretation of the law due to the people who have turned to them for advice due to doing something stupid with someone else's post which is fraud or theft, and have been caught.

For example I accept a parcel wrongly addressed to my house for a neighbour and don't give it to them because it's a £500 phone. The delivery company then admits it addressed it incorrectly and takes me to court because I sold it on and can't return it.

However the person sending the post to this address is trying to commit a crime.

So it's quite legal- and I've actually done it - to open the letter and if it's a firm you have a connection to yourself - contact them to inform the person has moved. If you then have the address they have moved to you should give it to that firm.

As I said before, I think you need to grow a thicker skin.

    This ^^

No one was nasty to the OP on that thread, they just told him he was wrong. Some were a little sarcastic, but is that really a problem?

Sounds like a bad case of 'people weren't telling me what I wanted to hear'.

This isn't the place for you if you want people to pander to you!

Why are some people so over sensitive on here?

It's the interweb innit. When you invite strangers to comment on your circumstances, you've got to expect a wide range of responses. If your ego is too fragile to sift through the potentially negative ones, then don't post about your life on a forum.

So, monty-doggy was wrong, other posters pointed this out, and they are the ones who are "real grumpy bitter people, with nothing better to do"?

    Really?

You were wrong monty-doggy, either move on or delete your bookmark to the site. It's a public forum, people have the right to post what they want within the rules.
