I have spent £400 this month but have been filling up the big chest freezer and store cupboard. I now have only basics like flour and milk to buy for the rest of the month.
Veg box weekly, meat boxes 2 weekly (to fill freezer.). The rest just incidentals.

We're not doing too bad so far, spent about £40 of our £60 for the month and need to get some veg but there's enough stuff between the freezer and the cupboards to last another 2 weeks I reckon. I'll go to the local wholesalers for the fruit & veg too so it'll be much cheaper.

I think I may start this too in July.

There are 2 of us and 4 bunnies (they have a carrot and broccoli allowance), I buy from Sainsburys online most weeks (the odd week we have to venture to the shop and spend a fortune!).

My OH is a veggie and lives on potatoes, cheese related things, garlic breads and beans. I eat everything and anything but I am a massive pasta fan!

I think for the first month I will try and aim for £180. I should be able to do this and then bring it down month by month!

I think the hardest thing will be cutting out those quick trips for extra bits and pieces!! Not as bad as I use to be but its so easy to go mad with it!!

sounds just like me! I learnt the hard way that the best way of not spending money is not to carry it with me. I'm pretty good now at estimating how much I need to spend and make sure I dont have much more than that amount on me.

I learned this lesson after I spent half the money that I had stashed in the back of my purse, that was to pay a big utility bill  - just blew it on silly impulse things. I suppose I felt rich!

Well, it's the first time I've posted here, but here goes...

I read this thread last night and woke up this morning feeling really inspired. I went online and checked back on all our debit card purchases at Sainsburys and Tesco since April 1st. I was shocked at how much we spent; it averaged at almost £600 per month, and that didn't include popping to the local shop or takeaways

Given that we've recently decided to restructure our mortgage payments so we can be mortgage free in 10 years, it's definitely time to get a grip on what we are spending.

So now I've done a meal plan, worked out when I'll be shopping and have allocated a reasonable budget for each shop. It will be interesting to see how we manage, given that we have two babies under 18 months old (two lots of nappies and one lot of baby milk and LOTS of laundry), a very hungry 12 year old and a commitment from all of us to exercise a lot more... that's bound to make us hungrier, right?

Anyway, sorry for waffling on - just really wanted to say 'hi', thanks for this thread and for the inspiration (kick up the backside) you've all given me :)

Well, had to buy some milk today £1.40, but that will last all week, so now overbudget for the week's groceries. Have planned menus for the next ten days to use up things in the storecupboard and have a shopping list planned out. The cats are now on biscuits during the day with a tin of meat at night - they are not happy, but they'll have to like it or lump it!!!
Also taking lunches to work - I'm currently trying to use the cereal we have and yoghurts, but as we've got a microwave, think I'll get some jacket potatoes and use the tins of beans and a packet of cheese. Target will be to spend no more than a fiver a week on lunches!

We're off to Devon at the weekend so shall save on W/E veggies & meat :j. It's the DS2's 50th birthday so we hope to have a jolly  time!!

DDiL is picking us up on Friday and bringing us back on Sunday, so won't have to spend anything on petrol either.
