Shelbi, just so you know, you don't have to shut it down - I switched but kept my RBS account. I then switched to First Direct for the £125 so now I have 3!

  • Lilian I have done that too- switched between Halifax and Nationwide and kept both accounts. I would keep going and switch to other banks but I am terrified of being rejected for a current account- don't know how strict they are!

Shelbi, well done for switching- I have that Halifax account, I used to get the £5 per month until they changed the rules which said you only get £5 a month if you are not overdrawn! And my £2000 overdraft is attached to that account :(

well done on your eBay purchases! Step by step and these debts will be eliminated!

I just wish all my paydays could come around faster.... Friday seems so far away and in the meantime these debts sit there and play on my mind :(
    Overdraft: £2000............. Credit card 1: £2400.......... Credit card 2: £1530..........Credit card 3: £800...............Credit card 4: £800
pay day loan (too sad and ashamed to put the balance, but will be clearing it by the end of this month)

hey girls!! you know that's what I thought bit they've changed the rules has to be closed, not that natwest were offering me anything...lilli thanks am interested in the first direct deal though I didn't realise you could do both, problem is my salary can only go into one, my work place won't split it into two...I wonder if first direct will let me do a transfer into that acccount each month that would be very nice, will be looking into that for sure!

thanks hun, was thinking need to visit some relatives see if they got any unwanted treasures they no longer want...I see a boot sale coming on.

I so get what you mean about payday only thing I can say is what my nan tells me "what you worry about now you probably won't worry about next year, so save yourselves the stress" in our case we literally won't be worrying about it as it will all be gone...just concentrate on the steps you are doing it's going bit by bit *hugs*....

hope you both have a wonderful evening x

I didn't do them both at once, I had Halifax for a good few years until First Direct offered their increased incentive (plus we needed one of us to have a First Direct account to pay our new mortgage from). So maybe worth switching to Halifax now and keeping an eye out for First Direct increasing their incentive again?

Morning Lilian... Thank you!! I looked into first direct last night, as luck would have it theyre offering an incentive of £125 again & you can transfer £1000 rather than have your salary just need to do it for three months to get the money, I think I will wait though to ensure Halifax have switched everything properly...I know its going to be higgledy pickledy & Ill need to pay alot more attention to whats going where...but thank you so much for the idea, its brill...hoping halifax sort things quickly so I can get moving...Hows the savings going..ill be across to have a nosey later see how your getting on... have a fab day x

Ok so quick updates so I know where im at, so yesterday was another nsd which takes me to 7!! Never have the purse strings been so tight, ive always bought something usually chocolate or crisps...im so happy!:j hope to make today nsd 8, as tomorrow Ive planned to go cinema (Its my weakness) so thats spend day.
Thursday im off into town for my bosses 40th so I will definitely spend then (trains, drinks, food) I have already scanned the menu so I can minimise the damage..Im hoping to spend no more than £15.;)
Friday -back to nsd's im babysitting so shouldnt spend a bean.
Weekend will be homebound or at least local as petrol is on the red, the meter is telling me I have 20 mls left so I should be ok for shopping run & a few other trips if necessary..it should last till payday *fingers crossed*...Off to work out my August budget..will post when i've sorted it.

  • Hello all. Well done Shelbi on the non-spending days! That is an amazing achievement! I have been successful on not buying any more groceries, and as far as I can tell I will make it until the weekend without buying any. I am quite impressed with how far you can get with £10 of fruit and veg, plus some rice, pasta, lentils (things I hoard anyways).

My non-spending is being disrupted by the fact I am moving house this week - which is a very welcome move which will make me much better off (by about £500 a month!) however unfortunately there have been essential purchases for the new place :( It makes it difficult to plan my spending right now, I don't know what to put in my excel spread sheet because the new place is completely unfurnished. Its not ideal to be moving at this time, but the opportunity came up and I couldn't say no since it will be such a great saving! However its unfortunate it has some start-up costs :(:(:(

By this weekend, I will be settled in the new place and some serious saving can begin.

    Hope everyone is doing well!
