Didn't do any baking in the end yesterday, the weather was too nice and the kids were having a lovely time playing in the garden so we just stayed outside instead. That meant that I didn't bake a sticky toffee pud to take to my friends today, luckily m&s came to the rescue, obviously not the frugal option but I couldn't go empty handed:D

I also spent on some new cosmetics in boots today taking advantage of their 3 for 2 offer and voucher for money off. Everything was needed though and will come out of the clothing/beauty fund. I'm hoping tomorrow will be a NSD, we're going to my mil's for a bite to eat and that should be it.

The weather has been so lovely again today, we even sat outside to eat our lunch:T it did go a bit chilly but it didn't stop us from staying out. The kids are loving playing outside and the fresh air is definitely helping with getting them into bed:T

  • Crumpets your life mirrors mine (except for the good weather, not seen so much of that since the start of the week sadly :() But we built a porch the year DD arrived, 7 square metres and I can honestly say it's enhanced my life more than I ever imagined! Trying to get in the door with kids, shopping, pram, falling over boots and shoes and coats drove me mad . Now we have somewhere to store trikes, outerwear, the pushchair etc. A really good spend IME

Your porch sounds enormous RT! Ours is not quite on that scale but I'm hoping it is going to make life a bit easier. I want to have a coat rack, shoe rack and some kind of storage bench to hide all the other things in. Luckily we have a coat and shoe rack from our old house so I only need to get a bench:T I'm glad yours has enhanced your life:D

It's been another beautiful day today, unfortunately we didn't get chance to spend any time outside today. We went to mil's for lunch and some friends of hers had brought the children some lovely personalised handmade gifts, dd2 had bunting, dd1 a handmade bag and Ds an adorable little bunny. So kind of them as we don't really know them very well:)

I did the weekly shop in aldi this morning and managed to get it under £50 for a change! Hooray :T meals are all planned for the week so hopefully I will just need to get fruit in the week.

I have £10 left over sundries this week so I will ba adding it to my op pot:T

I got an outside lantern style light on freecycle that is going to go in my porch, it was a bit scruffy looking so yesterday I got some spray paint (using nectar points:T) and I've painted it sage green and it looks so good! I'm really pleased with it and it has not cost me a penny:T I also spent some nectar points and a next voucher that I got for Christmas on some new cushions, I feel like I've been on a shopping spree but I haven't spent any cash:T
Those are my favourite kind of spending sprees! :T All the kitchen & porch work/decoration sounds like it's coming along swimmingly ~ I always like to hear about church pews & rustic boxes being part of the picture, in fact, the lantern just about sent me over the edge :D

Have you wallpaper lined your cupboards in the end? I've not done this recently, but it'd definitely be on my list as well if I was prettifying the kitchen. :)

PS. The world book day outfits sounded utterly delightful :) & hurrah for lovely ebay experiences!

  • Yes our porch is rather large Crumpets, more of a room really, but it kind of fits at the front of the house as what was our integral garage (now playroom) jutted out so we just finished the corner off to make the house into a box not sure if that makes any sense?! :o I'm sure you'll really use yours though, esp with 3 little ones :)

Hi diary! It's been a while since I've been able to post, I'm not sure why, I just seem to be so tired once the kids have gone to bed that I have just been slobbing out.

I'm sure there has been lots of money saving going on but I can't really remember what so can't update too much:rotfl:

This past weekend dh and I had a wonderful 24 hours away at a nearby touristy town to celebrate dh's birthday. We had lunch, drank wine, ate cake, rowed a boat, had dinner, drank more wine, listened to a band and had lots of fun:D:T therefore we were not particularly frugal, but this is the fïrst time in 3 years that we had been away so we were going to make the most of it.

I've got my frugal hat back on now and my shopping list and meal plan for this week are ready to go shopping in the morning. I'm hoping not to spend much as we have a fair bit in the freezer. I've asked dh to make my favourite pudding (chocolate mousse) for mothers day on Sunday so must make sure I get the ingredients for that:)

Talking of mothers day, tomorrow I'm taking my mum out for afternoon tea for her mothers day treat. Yum yum:p I've started jogging again, so must make sure I go out for a run in the morning to make allowances for the lovely cakes I'm going to eat:cool:

  • Glad you had a good weekend Crumpets, opportunities like that are so few and far between when you have young children, you have to make the most of them! Hope the porch is coming along well and that your Mother's Day plans are enjoyed by all :)

Hello RT good to 'see' you:D

I really need to get back into the habit of posting daily, it really helps keep the mind focused. My mum really enjoyed her afternoon tea the other day, it was such a treat. There was so much food though we had to ask for a doggy bag to bring some home. There was no way we were leaving it behind:p I spent more than I normally would on mothers day, but it was a treat for me too.

I sent dh shopping to aldi on Monday and he is such a stickler for sticking to the list. He only spent £41 but there were a few things that he didn't get eg fruit. ds and I nipped to the fruit and veg shop this morning to top up.

Today I took Ds to soft play and met a friend there. I had a voucher for a free play so only spend was some biscuits for a snack:T Tonight I have a night out planned, we are having a celebration for a friend who has just finished her chemo/radiotherapy so we will be having drinks and nibbles at the local pub. It was £10 a head including a drink, as it's a school night I'm hoping not to spend much more on drinks.

Things seem to be getting on top of me a bit in the house, there is a LOT of housework to do, I have DIY projects ongoing, I'm still making dd1s quilt and then there's the garden:eek: I think I need to make myself a list. When Ds wakes up we will clean out the chickens in the rain:eek: he won't mind being outside though, he loves the great outdoors:) yesterday I had to stock up on chicken food and I had a voucher for £10.85 off which is great as it means 1 1/2 bags were free:T I love free stuff!

I'm not having much luck on eBay lately, none of my stuff is selling, oh well I'll keep relisting in the hope that it will go eventually.

  • All the best to your friend Crumpets, I hope you have a fab time, well deserved after all she has been through by the sound of it :)

I know what you mean re: housework building up, I have a 5 year gap between my kids and I'd forgotten how impossible it is to get stuff done with a toddler around, plus how much more there is to do with each additional child of course! [STRIKE]I'm even threatening to get a cleaner and/or gardener but I won't put that on my diary as its not very [/STRIKE] :money::rotfl:

  • Hi Crumpets :hello:

I'm a baker/cake maker too, so I love the fact that your thread is like a diary of amazing cake inspired goodness. I'm sure baking helps our money savingness, if not our waistlines.
