As far as I know he is from the Midlands.
He is English type, and from a reputable breeder. I'm not sure if they showed their dogs.
I am registering him on the Kennel Club activity register, so I can at least enter things with him under my name through that. Just need to come up with a snazzy name for him now!
You've just got to hope that you were told the truth about him, either of his owners could have made up the fact that he came from a police breeder. Or even the breeder themselves can say they breed for the police, it doesn't make it true. If every shepherd (german and belgian) that I know of that owners/breeders claim came from "police lines" there would be more police dogs than handlers.
The only one I believe about their dog being from police line is my cousin and that's only because she's a police officer and took on her dog as a failed police dog.0 -
West Midlands seem to have their own breeding schemes, they don't tend to take dogs from other breeders now but it could be that the breeder is in the midlands but the dog went to another regional police force.0

I have found what I think may be his breeder (the only batch of GSD puppies born around here on that date registered, dad has been used to breed police dogs). But what do I do now? Is there any point contacting the breeder?
It is looking highly unlikely I will get his pedigree papers now, apparently they are 'lost'. Does this mean someone else could claim ownership of him?
I have sent off to register him on the kennel club activity register, hoping this may help somewhat.
Such a complicated situation and can't believe I am getting so stressed over paperwork!0 -
I would get in touch with the breeder, any breeder worth their salt will want to know where one of their puppies are, they can also give you a lot of useful information on any health tests his parents have had.
When I took in an adult TM , first thing I did was phone his breeder who was delighted Id gotten in touch.
From what I've read about other ownership issues, it's who's name is down at the vets and who pays the bills that counts, rather than who is down as the owner with the KC.0 -
I suppose the breeder may be able to give some insight in to his behavioural problems too, or at least be aware of it.
I will email them this evening.
On the plus side, he actually had a well-behaved day yesterday and managed to win 'dog in best condition' and 'most handsome dog' at a fun dog show on saturday! (Those prizes you can get by being silly but looking good)
