Copies of pedigree papers?

I have what you may consider a rescue dog, and he has pedigree papers knocking about somewhere although I am not sure who has them (either his previous owner, or the owner before that).

Is there any way of getting copies of them? I have his vaccination certificate and his passport, although that has the details of his first owner on it.

I'm not able to contact previous owners to ask, and I am still waiting to hear back from the microchip company to see if they have managed to successfully change over his owner details on his chip as they have to contact the previous owner to get permission to do this.

Not sure if that makes any sense!!

I am just trying to get all his paperwork up to date, and also see what his hip score would be as he seemed a bit iffy on his back legs yesterday.

I'm not very sure tbh, do you know what his pedigree name is ? If you do, Id start there and give the KC a phone and ask, as with anything involving the KC, it will cost you for a new pedigree, if they'll issue one at all.

The rescue I help sorts out the microchip direct, (its easier) So I would ask the rescue to sort that if you have a problem.

As for pedigree papers, we never ever give them. They are kept safe by the rescue, I am not saying you ( I hope your understand this) But if a dog gets rehomed and hasnt been neutered for whatever reason it gives the new owners a chance of making a quick buck. Yes this does happen so this is why many rescues keep hold of the "papers"

I guess its up to the place where your furkid came from, but I wouldn t worry too much about Papers. xxx

I'm not entirely clear what you are asking for - is it his registration papers or a copy of his pedigree you are after??

Do you know if he was registered in the first place? He may be/have a pedigree but have been bred from unregistered stock. Why is it important to you to have a copy?

You mention wanting to know his hip score - do you know for definite that he has been hip scored by a previous owner - or are you just assuming he may have been?

Do you know his pedigree name or the name of his breeder or even just the name of the kennel who bred him?

Do you know his date of birth?

Why can't you contact his first/previous owner?

What do you mean by "what you may consider a rescue dog"?

Sorry, to be so nosy - but any little piece of the jigsaw may be the clue that gets you some answers ;).

Our breed rescue has the same policy for exactly the same reasons :A.

As others have said, Rescues do not hand over KC registration/pedigrees for dogs that go through their hands, to try to ensure that the dogs' forever homes are just that.

Its quite possible that he wasn't hip scored either.

I do hope that you manage to get his hips sorted out.

Its an odd situation so i cant go in to too much detail ob here, but will try and answer your questions.
He was not from a rescue centre, he was given to me. His circumstances mean i call him a rescue but no official rescue centre was involved. This is also why i cant contact previous owners.
I have his date of birth, chip number, vaccination card and passport. He is registered under my name at the vets and insured under my name.
I was told he had a pedigree certificate and was hip scored. I was also told his pedigree name but cant remember it.

I want to do the good citizens award with him so want his pedigree for that. Id also like to look in to the hips issue. And try and tie up loose ends regarding ownership.

    Hope that all makes sense!

Oh and he has been neutered and has 'issues ' so definitely no breeding going on here!

If you can find out his pedigree name you can check on the KC website at 'health tests' to see if he has been hip/elbow scored.

To get hands on the papers really you will need to do your own paper trail for that as the KC presumably don't know you are now his owner ( if you didn't sign transfer of ownership on the KC papers) so will not send you anything out I'm afraid.

If he is microchipped, you could contact the BVA and see if they have any trace of his chip with regards to hip/elbow scoring also.

How old is he? I managed to get my new dog transferred to me by the Kennel Club, by doing it online, but he's only 2. I did have the form signed by his previous owner, BTW, but didn't need it.

ETA If you have the PetLog basic registration form, have a look on there, there's space for the KC registration number.
