Does anyone know whether they check bags?

Specifically for excessive amounts of food and alcohol.

They don't check all of them, they just pick at random. There was a big group of girls who had their own drink with them when we went and they were drinking their booze and they didn't get into trouble. I don't think its not allowed. They do sell drink in the shop on board, I paid £4 for four cans of Brown Ale. I think if they do stop you they wouldn't take it off you though.

Thanks for your recent reports (it's a few years since I went on one of these).
Could you please tell me whether they sent you any correspondence or tickets for your cruise, or did you just use your confirmation off the DFDS website.
I've got one booked for August and am looking forward to going.
  • Hiya who has been on this offer as my friend is going next week and she dosnt really know what to expect.. is there entertainment and do you have to pay for it?
she dosnt know if she will need just her passport and a print of the email confirmation as she hasnt been sent anything via post.
Can anyone give me some advice to pass on please  xxxx

vfm - you just need the reference number to get on - i took a copy of the confirmation email that was fine. They didn't send me anything through the post

preetipatel - as above and you don't need to pay for the entertainment apart from the cinema - that was 55NOK iirc (about £4.50) but they did deal with a drink and some popcorn for 80NOK (£6.50ish)

Oh, and if anyone's taking a lot of food/drink/stuff with them, take a case with wheels, it's a long walk from the departure lounge to the boat and can be a bit of a hike on the boat too (there is a conveyor thing at Shields, but it's still a long way to carry a heavy bag).

I went to Amsterdam last year and got stopped and searched (my family thought it was hilarious:rolleyes: They all got through but it was only me they stopped.) I had food in my bag and it was fine :j

I'm going to Amsterdam again this year for my birthday and I'm taking food and drink with me

All this info is really useful, thanks everyone. Does anyone know how near/easy to find parking is? I've heard it's £8 a day, is that true?
