Recently moved house and now have a water meter. Its a 3 bedroom semi with 2 adults and 2 teenage kids. No dishwasher just a washing machine, a little bit of water every 2 weeks on car (couple of buckets) and occasional hosepipe on garden usually though its watering cans or use our new water butt.

Just wondered what you guys consume, is our consumption high, mid, low, as we have no idea although we do try and cut back now.

We used in just over 4 weeks 22/04/07 - 24./05/07 101 units of water (now thats what I read on meter) 04483 - 04584

Thanks

101 units is on the very high side, you havent included the red digits have you ?

We have 3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 young children so washing machine is on all time , baths most days for kiddies (although they share) ,water garden, etc and we just used 45 units in 6 months

Could be possible you have a leak on the meter.

I didnt include the red digits, just the digits that Yorkshire Water request on there online billing.

If you say thats high, then we must have a leak or something else is a foot, we really careful now how much we use since moving house, we cant cut down anymore other than not water garden and car which isnt that much now

    Thanks

The average for 4 people should be 240 units(cubic metres) a year. So you should have used approx 20 in that time.

It is easy to see if you have a leak. Just note the reading(including fractions) before a period when you don't use water and again afterwards.

Thanks I am going to take a reading tonight before bed and again following day. We do have a free 3 months insurance from YW when we moved so IF there is a leak hopefully we should be covered.

The reading I posted are the digit that YW ask for when submitting the bills, I just subtracted last months from this and got 101 units, I didnt include the red digits as they dont ask for them.

We are two adults and 2 dogs in a 3 bed detached and use between 1.7- 2.5 cubic metres per week. I think that's about average.

I assume that is 04596.081? i.e. the last 3 digits are fractions in red

    12 units in 4 days is obviously wrong.(over 1,000 a year)

Are you sure you are reading it correctly. It is a real coincidence that the fractional reading is exactly the same(.081) on both readings.

Could it be that somehow it has gone from 0458.408 to 0459.608 i.e. just 1.2 units which is about right. I have a feeling that the '1' at the end is a '/'

Bet you a litre of water that is the explanation!
