Is this really how much moving costs :O

I've always done it myself. £35 for a day's worth of Luton van and as many people as I could get to help.

Last time we moved we decided to do it ourselves.

Previous move (150 miles) had cost £4000+ (Bishop's Move) and to move a similar distance (200 miles) this time we'd been quoted in excess of £2500 by a family firm......Neither of these included the removers packing btw, as we have too much precious, irreplaceable stuff to entrust to strangers ;)

We already had boxes saved from the last time. We hired a 7.5 tonne van and needed to make seven journeys over the course of a week - in the end what with van hire and fuel costs, plus the hassle of humping all that stuff, I don't really think it was worth the (small) saving :o

Hopefully we won't be moving again, LOL!

I will have a look at local firms, but if anyone knows a firm that could be used in the Warrington area (which is the closest biggish place to where we will be moving to), would be much appreciated.
Only approx 20 miles so shouldn't take as long as 200 miles.
I would take the irreplaceable things in the car, but tbh there aren't many things that are fragile, large and irreplaceable that wont fit in two cars. Expensive things yes, but with insurance not a problem and hopefully they are careful as can be.

Edit: and hopefully this will be the last move I ever make as not planning on any more children and buying big enough to not need to as as you can guess we hate moving:-)

Ooh I live in Stockport. I had a quote from a company called SD removals who cover Cheshire. They should do your area.
    They were nice and reasonable.

I work in Warrington too :)

I ended up with a company called Stockport removals, but only because I got a discount as my broker negotiated it for me.

We used these guys to move from Manchester to Derbyshire - cost £200 for one large van load. Would recommend them (after fuel and hire costs, don't think it cost us much more)

    too many comps..not enough time!

Thanks I will have a look at these two companies to see how much they will quote.

I'm a lazy mover too - most of my past moves have been ones where I paid extra for the packing service. They came round the day before and packed up everything in a few hours, when it would have taken me days - they just wrap stuff and stick it in a box, whereas it's easy to get distracted when it's your own stuff, you come across things you haven't seen for ages, you decide to put things from different rooms in the same box, you don't even know where to start etc etc

I can't remember the difference in cost - certainly a few hundred quid, but I had 3 or 4 bed houses and quite a bit of stuff. Definitely worth it as far as I was concerned (yes, I know this is a money saving website, but sometimes time saving is just as desirable! ;) )

I moved 20 miles and had them pack for me - and they supplied ALL boxes, wrapping paper/bubble wrap, etc.

Trust me - IT'LL BE THE BEST MONEY YOU EVER SPENT!

I paid £900-odd for my last move, and £1,000 for the one before that (same company).

    What area?

btw, it's common - and a service most removal firms will offer.

Try looking on Check a Trade too, I'm currently in the process of getting quotes but we're only moving a mile....wouldn't mind doing it myself but I guess it's not easy when completion is just one day :(

Definately the best thing you could buy!!! I've moved twice now with full-packing service and would never consider not doing it. Just moved from a 3 bed to a 4 bed and it cost £700....a few years ago our move from a 2 bed to the 3 bed cost £600.

It makes moving so much easier...no need to panic about all that packing before then.

We moved last year and used Roy Jacks in Widnes - not too far from you. Talking to the guys they'd been all over Europe so distance didn't seem to be an issue!

They came recommended and were brilliant. 3 bed house / 1 mile cost about £560. I'm sure that with packing it would have been less than £1000.
