Moving Costs for the lazy:)

I am not sure if removals firms would even do this but?

If i wanted to do nothing when moving from my 3 bed semi and wanted to have the removals form do all my packing, provide all boxes etc and move everything into my new house how much would this costs me.

I will do all of the unpacking in the new house.

Just wondering how much i should budget for this if possible?

Thanks

I think they do tbh. but it costs LOADS!! and would depend on distance of said move.

    you'd be looking £1500+

I am moving, I have a 3 bed and I own everything apart from the fridge freezer. I had a real ton of crap. I have had quotes from four firms each between 350 and 400, including providing insurance, boxes and dismantling, re building beds and wardrobes.

    This doesn't however include packing.
They do offer this but I don't want someone else seeing all my junk! Or my smalls!
    Only moving a mile.

Might be worth getting some free quotes?

Is this really how much moving costs :O

I've always done it myself. £35 for a day's worth of Luton van and as many people as I could get to help.
  • Pickfords do the LOT for around 1000 to 1500, but it does vary and depend on the distance. I would want to do most of it myself, but many get them to do the lot. :)

I have always done it myself with van hire, but now I own all my own furniture and a v expensive tv. I'd be devastated if any of it got broke. Plus I have accumulated that much stuff, I can't be arsed lugging it all to the new house. I'm fed up as it is with all the moving and buying house malarkey!

Thanks for the replies, we would be moving about 15-20 miles as the area we are looking is about this distance away from where we are now.
I am not to bothered about someone else seeing my smalls and junk:) will never see them again (as long as they dont steal my pants that is!!

I was expecting more than £1500 but not bad for the all the hassle, or lack of.

I moved approx 1800 cubic feet of stuff recently and it cost just under £1000. Distance was 10 miles. Took 3 guys a day to pack and a day to move it. Price depends on factors like how much is fragile, small stuff etc. Also access to both properties, stairs, etc. I got 3 quotes and the highest was £2,800 so shop around! I went with a family owned business where the guy that moved us also came out and looked at the stuff to be moved and quoted. With the bigger companies you often get a salesperson who has never worked in the actual operations department of the company and may over estimate. I also went with a recommended company and it turned out well. Good luck!

  • They do actually do it super dooper fast. So if you CAN afford about a grand, then it's worth it to avoid the stress and hassle. And you can just unpack at your leisure when you get there. :)

the packing doesn't actually cost that much more in all cases. Post where you are and people might be able to recommend some local companies?

    too many comps..not enough time!

In the last two years I've gone from living in a studio in Paris, to living in a city centre penthouse, to living in an out of-town 3 bedroomed maisonette, to, hopefully this week, a one bedroomed converted apartment in a townhouse.

It's a doddle once you're in the mood!
