Thanks Wendz! Hope you are well. We are also waiting on OH's wages. Thankfully he gets paid this Friday
Lara - hope you have a lovely time with your sister.

I'd be up for some debt busting challenges too! In the grand scheme of things my debt isn't too much (just under £900) but I'm still not comfortable with it. Will definitely check out the book selling sites as I have loads that I could get rid of and every little bit helps!
Have been looking at wedding venues and have found what seems like the perfect one. DF is still pushing to get married this October but I would feel more comfortable with next October to be honest. Not only will it give us more time to save but with all the problems we had last year, it would just make me feel better about our relationship.
Hope everyone is doing well, I'll be off updating my diary tonight if anyone wants me!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
You sound like you're on the case, Dinah. Will definitely check those sites, thanks. I'd definitely be up for a money making challenge. I still didn't bite the bullet and temp, eek! I'd prefer something casual from home (but wouldn't everybody).
Had a nice time with my sis, she also paid me £45 she owed me so some of that's going to be spent on a nice wooly blanket, I've wanted one for ages. Also going to be needing a pair of maternity jeans pretty soon I think. My Mum gave me loads of smocks and big jumpers from her wardrobe de-junk so hopefully 1 pair will keep me going a good while yet.
Good news on your refund, Cinny! How's the new place coming along?
Tink, we switched recently and found a much cheaper deal. Maybe you can too?
CMD, sorry to hear that you and the family have not been well, hope you feel better soon x
Ruby - exciting about the venue, what's it like?:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
We are going up to the lake district In april for my cousins wedding and staying 5 days. Am debating going to stay with OH's nan and grandad in spain in June as would only need to pay for flights but money is pretty tight.
Ruby - that is good about the wedding venue. I think waiting till next October sounds sensible so don't let him push you into earlier if you are worried.0 -

It's a small (ish) country house in the middle of like 300 acres of public parkland, but it has it's own landscaped gardens. It's got 2 large "ballrooms", a lounge / bar and a really nice bridal suite upstairs to get ready in. It's very simple yet stylish and its the kind of venue that doesn't need a lot of "dressing". The price is reasonable for what you get but the only downside is there isn't any accomodation. However they have deals with local hotels and we would want to stay in a different one to our families as the thought of being in the same hotel as his mother fills me with dread!
We're going to look at an equally nice place (according to the website) this weekend that's about the same price, maybe a bit cheaper, so then it's just going to be which one has that edge.
I'll post the links to the winning one once we actually book something!
We've also found a band we like (they played on new years eve in the local pub and were exceptionally good!), a photographer that does the kind of pictures we would want (but need to do a bit more research I think) and a the wife of one of DF's friends is a baker and has offered to make the cake at a reduced rate.
So all in all we're doing quite well!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Well done on all the listing Dinah! Hope it brings in plenty money and makes the hours of work feel worthwhile!
Sorry people are feeling the January pinch. We used to get paid early in December and hated it, much better since they changed our pay day to the 20th of the month. got paid yesterday and we were well ready for it, glad we didn't have to wait any longer!We're trying a new thing this month to get into practice for living frugally on maternity pay, we've cut our personal spendies down to £100 a month... I'm already trying to think of ways to avoid meeting friends in fancy coffee shops and going for lunch or dinner out as I just won't have the money!
How cute are the little threadies with their funny fears! Especially Max's random worries about volcanoes!My nephew freaks out at a certain episode of 'In the Night Garden' when Iggle Piggle sneezes! I had to cover his eyes and ears the other day when I was watching it with him to keep him calm!
Not sure what we're doing about a holiday this year. If we've got the money, OH is keen to have a 4/5 day trip to Spain with the baby at the end of the year, get him used to travel at a young age but not sure if it'll happen. We might look into getting a little holiday let if we have a nice summer.
Exciting stuff about the wedding getting sorted Ruby! Hope you decide on a venue soon so you can really get things going!
Glad you had a nice time with your sister Lara. I found that some jersey tunics from Joules (bought in the sale!) have fit me all the way through and they're so comfy.
Day 2 of maternity leave and OH is getting worried that I'm 'isolating myself'! :rotfl: I've just been happy to spend the last couple of days chilling out at home rather than start rushing about seeing people, I just don't think he gets just how tired I get and going out to see people is so very sleepy-making right now!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Too tired. Full reply tomorrow. Out most of the day then Grace has a horrible cough so wakes up because she's been sick through coughing. Poor bairn is just down again now so I'm going to bed too, may well be up with her in the night again.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Don't blame you for wanting to wait at all Ruby, even if it was just for moneys sake! Best you feel secure and ready
The place does sound lovely, and having guests at another hotel may be a blessing
Sometimes I do think the smaller the debt the harder it is to actually get motivated, so you'll probably benefit more from a challenge than any of us!
Speaking of challenges, I still don't understand how Dejunk January was a year ago :eek:
Hope you're feeling better CMD, and that little Grace at least managed to get some sleep and is a little better today!
But the house is coming along really wellEverything is carpet-ready bar the kitchen/utility/pantry which is getting plastered and sorted this week. Carpets on Monday, going in to give it a good clean on Tuesday, then we're just steadily moving things across. First night in on the 1st of Feb!

Lol - Max's worry of the morning was where in the house the Gruffalo might be hiding!!!
I am feeling much better thanks, although have opted to work from home so I don't spread my germs.
All sounds good on the house front Cinny. Can't wait to see the before and after photos. Have such itchy feet to get a house but I know it might be more than a year!!!
Ruby - you are definitely right to wait a while, given that you have had some issues. It will be great to walk down the aisle knowing you have no debt and also that your relationship is solid.
Birdie - don't worry about isolating yourself. Maternity leave is all about 'nesting and resting'. Let them all come to you, and preferably with cake!
Glad you had a nice day Lara. Always good to get money owed back.
