Cats … Fence spikes/nails/drawing pins

Can anyone recommend a good product for putting on my fence ?

I've just spent around 8k on my garden only for the local cats to treat my property like their local toilet!
They have also scratched my sleeper wall to pieces.

I absolutely hate cats, Im fed up of seeing them come wondering in and fouling in my flowers and sleeping on my shed roof.

I was thinking of getting some drawing pins and glueing them on the fence but was wondering if there is anything better ?

Also, anyone know what the legalities of catching a cat and forcing the owner to pay for all the damages its done to my garden ?

Cats are considered 'free spirits' with the right to roam, unlike dogs, so very little you can do in terms of 'forcing' an owner to pay up for damages.

You'd probably find yourself in more bother for putting nails and pins on the fence. There are other cat deterrents available that don't cause any physical harm! Try squirting them with a water gun when you see them.

I've tried water, lion dung and a spray.
To be honest, I'm sick of wasting money on other peoples pets.

Cat owners are the absolute worst.
They bang on about loving their pet .... that they kick out the door and let roam the streets for days on end and destroying peoples property.

I think I will make something up with nails and pins sticking out, that should do the job.

Have you tried speaking to said cat owners?

You are aware that the RSPCA can and do prosecute people that intentionally cause harm to animals?

I think that's a bit mean, the poor cat that gets impaled on your fence! There are plenty of ways to stop cats coming in your garden, have a look at this thread and all he other threads it has links to :)

I live in a pretty busy area, I have no idea who's cats these are.

How am I intentionally harming them ?

I'm not forcing the poxy things to walk on my property.

I'm only talking about small cladding nails, would just Pr*ck their feet and hopefully they think twice. (why is the word pr*ck banned on here .... jaysus ..)

By putting spikes where you know they will walk. It's really not the best idea. Proportionally you risk getting into more bother than an owner would get into for their cat sunbathing on your fence.

What about the spikey strips they put on buildings to stop birds landing, could work for cats and you could say its to stop birds, sorted. google Bird Deterrent Strips

Rather than spikes what about somekind of rotating roller/bar so that as they jump up and try to grab the top to pull themselves up and over it rotates and dumps them back down to the ground. That way you couldn't be accused of trying to injure the cat but you'd also make it much harder for them to climb over.

Another variant would be to get some thin sheet metal (I know you can get it in model shops) like some brass or copper, and fix this over the top of the fence so that again they can't get a grip on the top to scrabble over. Most cats won't try to clear a 6ft fence in one go (not least because they want to know what is the other side!) so if the top is slippery and not "clawable" then they will struggle to get on to the top to look around and then jump down.
