Thanks for a lot of the advice people - It has given me a lot to think about.

I did try to go in this morning with new confidence and get involved with conversations but its kind of all been undone by the girl sitting diagonally opposite me offering everyone on the table except me some chocolate type sweets so I'm just sitting here feeling pretty low and unwanted but pretending not to be bothered by being engrossed in work.
That`s pretty rude, but head up!
Buy a box of chocolates and offer everyone, including her. Let them know you are a nice person!

I read your post yesterday, but didn't get a chance to reply.

Well done on going into work with the right attitude. I'm a shy person myself, so understand that it's difficult to be outgoing and involve yourself.

Don't forget, you have your friends outside of work, so you know it is possible to get to know people, and feel comfortable with them.

It's still very early days yet. I was made redundant after 28 years in the same job, and it took me months to feel anywhere near comfortable in my new job, and that was with colleagues who seemed to be welcoming.

The girl with the chocolates sounds like a mean cow, that is not nice at all.

All I can say, is give yourself time to settle, try not to worry too much about it, as the over anxiety makes it even worse, and let natural conversations happen.

Give it another couple of months at least ....... If there's no improvement then, it might be time to start looking for another job.

But at least you are earning, so enjoy having the money in your pocket and have good weekends and holidays, don't let the worry of the working week stop you enjoying the rest of your life

  • I had similiar today with a certain 'big' member of the team adding all and everybody apart from this temp on these social network sites, ah think other temps were actually playing a part in making it worse? I just put my head down, though the look I got was priceless when later in day it came to light I was giving another colleague a lift in with me from now (oh and suddenly allowed to park in the company car park no problemo £80 I ain't got to find!) left me smiling inside while make myself that bit more valued here's hoping

OP know how you feel right now, keep chipping away x
