That was my understanding anyway.
upto now no one has mentioned self recording from a stream iplayer program, as far as I know you can not record iplayer from TV, ipad, or mobile whilst it is streaming, so if he meant if someone modded one of those devices so they would be able to record, then that should have been made clear.
The statement that a saved iplayer program needs a licence is misleading, given the context it was said, qualifying it now to mean recording from a live stream clears up the misleading statement.0 -

I mean, a standard device such as a TV or ipad etc can not record an iplayer program whilst it is being streamed live, I may be wrong, and I understand anything is possible with a bit of know how but generally it's not possible.
There is software available that will record anything that is displayed on your screen. I used to have it on my old PC, but I can't remember what it's called.0 -

The BBC is funded rightly or wrongly by license fees. So anyone who watches/listens to any BBC broadcast (either live or recorded) is having their entertainment paid for by license payers.
But then this reflects the selfish world we live in.oldgrumpygit wrote: »It wasn't originally the way I read it, sorry.
Are you saying then that those that use catch up services and are able to watch, read and listen to the BBC without the need for a licence, are being subsidised by those that do?
That I can understand and think that it is wrong and the BBC has made a rod for its own back with iPlayer.Jamie_Carter wrote: »Yes that's exactly what I mean.Yes I know but I wrote this in response to the suggestion that watching saved programmes on iPlayer should require a licence.Jamie_Carter wrote: »Yes it is. You really haven't gotten over thinking I was condescending to you,in one of my posts have you
The saved iplayer program reference was in response to you saying oldgrumpy understood you clearly when you said those that didn't pay for a licence were being subidised by the licence payer, Katjo jumped in and said they didn't think that everyone that has a ipad etc should have to buy a licence incase the should use iplayer, oldgit jumped in to stir it a bit more and say he thought and took it the katejo meant self recorded...yeah right!, so I must have got it wrong, I think was the implication and you added your bit of spice to say oh there are software that can record but you can't even name one, just to try and back up this daft argument.
Look I'm right you're wrong...I hope that is not too condescending for you0 -

I presume you are trolling now cos you are bored.
If you learn how to operate a search engine you will find links to the appropriate software.
You're wrong and we are right - I do hope that (apart from being factually correct) is suitably condescending.0 -
There are various ways of doing this. AFAIK it's no more illegal than using a VCR, so here are some options:-
get_iplayer - this is a set of scripts that runs on a PC and downloads iPlayer content into an MP4 file. That file can then be played across a wide variety of devices. I've used this a lot, and can recommend it for reliability and ease of use. I've not been able to get the live stream recording to work, and therefore this never requires a TV licence.
iPlayer/PS3 - this is an older set of hardware/software and last time I checked, the SCART output was recordable e.g. with a DVD recorder. This requires a licence if the recorded stream is live.
screen cams (various) - in theory, these can capture any PC screen contents including video. In practice, I've not had good results and you can mess about with the options for hours. It may be that some paid-for alternatives offer better results? This requires a licence if the viewed/recorded stream is live.0 -

Who is being forced to fund other people's entertainment, and how?
You understand me but refuse to accept people are being forced to fund one persons entertainment over someone else's who'd prefer to do without the mighty BBC. You would rather they do without live television unless they subsidise the BBC for you firstThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Millions watch (and pay) for the BBC!
What you meant is that a very few individuals are unhappy at helping to fund an organisation they don't like for some reason.0 -

I didn't understand until it was explained to me.
Now I do.
No-one is being "forced".
If you don't want to pay a licence fee then don't.
Just don't watch live TV.0
