It's worth saying that iPlayer has a challenge pop-up box for the live streams regarding TV licences. It's not something that you could stumble into by accident.
Just reconfigured my Youview box to attach an aerial and hide all the TV channels - right on the edge of legality. :eek:0 -

Move to the US and enjoy BBC USA for free, not sure how you want to get there, fly sail or swim that's up to you, similar services to other countries too, not to mention the Iplayer is accessable to other countries too.
BBC America (a commercially supported station) is not the same as "The BBC being free"
BBC Advertising (part of BBC worldwide) sells advertising on the BBC worldwide commercial channels.
The BBC puts adverts on its website for users outside the UK
It is possible I suppose that you believe that television programmes/stations/channels funded by advertising are "free"0 -

Or in others words, perfectly legal.0 -

well that's different, you said "saved" not recorded, if you record a live stream or watch a live stream then yes you need a licence but you statemnet was misleading as you do not need a licence to watch a saved iplayer program, recorded and saved are not the same thing.
we are arguing over words here but with the TV licencing it's needed0 -
I suspect "saved" was used in the context of saved onto your device aka downloaded aka recorded as the programme was being transmitted aka streamed live.
That was my understanding anyway.0
