Would it be possible to have a spam hunting team set up to deal with these spammers that constantly join up and post one or two threads that are obvious spam about kitchens.

They are not 'bots' as the posts get changed to work around the swear filters that the forum team has tried to enforce.

The threads hang about the boards and searches until upwards of 40 people have clicked the spam button, I say that as I can only go by the 'viewed' figures and assume that anyone who views the thread would not leave without clicking the button.
There is then the question of whether it is wise to bump the thread up the board by asking people to click the button, yes it might help get more clicks but it also brings it to the top again.

Possibly one or two of the BG's that are regularly on in the mornings and maybe a few of other 'trusted' members could make up the squad so that if they hit the button the threads would disappear quicker into a seperate unseen section so that the forum team can deal with them later. (as suggested partly by a BG)

The kitchen people are extremely persistent. They must be masochists, as they are known spammers whose posts don't last very long.

I too was wondering whether there might be a quick and easy to identify such posts and deal with them immediately. I must have marked hundreds of them as Spam, but they keep coming.

that is already happening. There's 2 or 3 of us that hunt these out early in the morning (as they usually appear overnight) and report them, deleting them first if they are on the boards that we manage. If they are on other boards we can only report them and wait for the relevant BG or the FT to deal with them.

As you know they are persistent, creating multiple IDs in quick succession, so keeping on top of it is difficult but the BGs are doing as much as they possibly can to remove them as quickly as possible.

I did speculate somewhere whether clicks on the spam button for long standing members and/or BGs could be weighted more. i.e. they would count for 2 or 3 say normal clicks, and so could get rid of this sort of blatant spam quicker regardless of whether the appropriate BG or forum team is online.

I don't know whether that is technically possible or desirable, but I think is what torbrex is referring to.

And I stress, that was just my own rambling thoughts the other day.......

That's what I am getting at, some BG's don't get in until later in the day so the spam tends to hang around their boards longer until the button limit has been reached, I have seen some of these threads with over 70 views.

If the forum team can't find a way to prevent the spammers from posting then they should at least find a way to remove the threads quicker and that might have the effect of making the effort to join and post seem a bit less attractive.

As we were just bouncing ideas and as you say rambling, I didn't want to 'out' you :p:)
I did give it some more thought though, hence this thread :o

I'm one of those 'later' people, but I generally find it's all gone by the time I log in.

Maybe so but the saturation effect of the posts spoils the enjoyment that normally comes with using the site early in the morning and when someone comes along after most of the threads have started to sink down the boards and bumps them back up again its just

I was just hoping that there was a quicker way to get them removed, even if its just giving a couple of BG's extra powers to remove them from all the boards rather than just their own remits.

If the thread is already disappearing off the bottom of the first page, then I wouldn't advise bumping it by posting in the thread.

Hit the spam button, and if the thread still remains, you could always send a report to the Forum Team :)

    WHOIS says:

    Domain name:

    They are being discussed elsewhere:

"Edit: Apparently the entire website is a scam to defraud people. They require a £100 deposit for products/services they obviously never intend to deliver.

They're not going to stop spamming, ever. I'm going to continue looking for more info.

Update: A whois lookup tells us that the domain is registered to (Text removed by Forum Team) of:
    (Text removed by Forum Team)

Their website lists no actual business address. Numerous reports can be found regarding complaints about spam. A google search for the url shows numerous spammed forums."

Ah! I wondered why they posted an illegible web address - but I guess you have the swear filter to wipe out their name. it would be wonderful if you could get rid of this guy altogether, I do my best to click spam but it never seems enough.
